Can't you do the same thing with Google Docs?
helpingmedia's comment, April 17, 2011 3:11 PM
Hi Pablo, probably. I like the way you can collaborate over an issue - as I did today testing this with a colleague in SE Asia - and create an html doc with embedded elements that you can then save or upload.
Could be good for working on a project/article together. This site is not about either or, it's about listing all the tools that can benefit journalists. David
Pablo Oliva's comment, April 17, 2011 3:14 PM
Understood. I mentioned Google Docs since it already appears to be a popular solution and wanted to point that out for people who were interested in this functionality ;-)

ChattNow.org's comment, March 26, 2011 11:59 AM
Thanks that sounds good - I was wondering whether Flipboard planned on doing something like that. Another thing that would be great (long-term) is if they "sort" the material into pages of related stuff - I have very disparate groups of friends, some in Afghanistan, some in Egypt, some in media in the US, some who are hikers in Georgia... so it would be nice to have them in "sections" someday
helpingmedia's comment, March 26, 2011 12:01 PM
Yes, I have acheived that by creating Twitter lists of followers in categories - such as Caucasus, Africa, etc. Then, in Flipboard, I create a page of that Twitter list so that I only get tweets from that specific group of people. David
ChattNow.org's comment, March 26, 2011 12:26 PM
right - I haven't gotten that organized yet with Twitter - plus, can't see any way in Flipboard to use multiple Twitter accounts, which is a big drawback since I manage five!

topically it's really FB that I need to manage --- and I also admin three FB pages, so.....

Tweetcloud

Tweetcloud | Social media kitbag | Scoop.it
Another way for journalists to generate word clouds based on what they have said (your Twitter user name) or on topics. Then click on the resulting words to display a list of relevant tweets.

Of course you can then click on the name and try to connect with any interesting contacts or just join the conversations as part of the news gathering and news dissemination process.

Please add your comments or experience of using this tool in the box below so everyone can benefit.

Duolingo

Duolingo | Social media kitbag | Scoop.it
I like the idea of this new tool and have just signed up for a pre-release registration. Quote taken from Techcrunch article, "how can you get 100 million people on the web translating everything into different languages for free?" http://techcrunch.com/2011/04/12/duolingo/

Could this be useful for newsgathering? From the site's blurb: "With Duolingo you learn a language and simultaneously translate the Web.

"Language differences remain a barrier for the global sharing of knowledge, and computers cannot process human language accurately. The more you learn at Duolingo, the more knowledge you make accessible to the world. Since you create shared value when you learn, you don’t have to pay for using Duolingo. We believe language education should be 100% free."
