UMapper

I have yet to try this but it looks a great way to create interactive maps and embed them in your site.

This from the site's blurb "Create interactive maps and embed them on your site. Great for keeping track of an event and linking back to archived information."

The geo quiz option is great! You can make very entertaining as well as educational geo games. We have used it on the travel web site of Aftenposten, Norway's largest newspaper, and it has been tremendously popular among readers. For an example, check out this example (in Norwegian):

Twitter Network Browser

Twitter Network Browser | Social media kitbag | Scoop.it
I find this tool a great help for finding new Twitter contacts. If I see an interesting tweet and want to find out more about the person who tweeted it I can put their name in the search box and see those in his/her network who recently tweeted or retweeted.

Click on that persons box and their network expands. And on it goes. Great for newsgathering.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn | Social media kitbag | Scoop.it
LinkedIn is an important tool for journalist networking. It strengthens and extends your existing network of trusted contacts. I currently have more than 500 connections and, if you enter your career details carefully LinkedIn can result in work. I have had three contracts through LinkedIn. Here is my site http://www.linkedin.com/in/mediaideas
