Dipity

Find, Create, and Embed Interactive Timelines. I have yet to try this but it looks to be a good tool for creating interactive maps.

This from the site's blurb. "An interactive, visually engaging timeline in minutes. Use dynamic visualization tools to display photos, videos, news and blogs in chronological order.

"Browse through visually stunning timelines created by popular newspapers, politicians, celebrities, teachers and the Dipity community."

Please add your comments or experience of using this tool in the box below so everyone can benefit.

A tool for sifting through data to find information. Could be useful to journalists trying to understand data mining and data journalism.

I have also added this to the Data Mining for Journalists curation site on Scoop.it

Jux - blogging from iPad &computer

I have just signed up and put up a test post from my iPad and I was impressed. It's fairly intuitive and fast. I needed to log on from my computer to do some fine edits to the site's look and feel, and I have still not figured everything out, but my first impressions are good.

Not sure how and why I would use it, but I will keep testing it. It links to social networks as expected.

From the site: "Jux is the ultimate place to share your photos, videos, words and more. It's like the IMAX of blogs. 100% immersive content."

Diigo

Web Highlighter and Sticky Notes, Online Bookmarking and Annotation, Personal Learning Network. From the site "Diigo is a powerful research tool and a knowledge-sharing community"

Has similarities to Goozy but also enables you to capture and store webpages in the cloud, so if they disappear you still have a record.

Also, you can add notes to those pages and highlight them as well as sharing. Looks neat.

Have signed up and will test. Please add thoughts, experiences below.

BagTheWeb and Connotea

Found this piece on Robin Good's site. I have already signed up for and am using Pearltrees and Scoop.it, but not BagTheWeb and Connotea, so I can't recommend or give any feedback. However, I would be interested in any experiences people have had using them. Please add comments below.

Odosketch

I wonder whether this could ever come in useful for court artists who need to sketch, upload, share and embed?  Perhaps not, but adding it to the Social Media Kitbag For Journalists just in case anyone can think of a use. Even if not, it's great fun.

From the site: "Odosketch is a flash drawing application created by Odopod, a digital agency in San Francisco. Create sketches, watch sketches replay, or simply view recent and our favorite featured illustrations."

Think Insights with Google

This could be a useful tool for journalists and media managers to understand changing audience behaviour and respond accordingly.  Many are writing about this as a marketing tool, but I see it of value to those producing content, too.

MailChimp - for newsletters

Not really a social media tool for journalists, but a useful free (with limitations) product for creating newsletters.

I have added it following a request to Media Helping Media from a journalist in Africa for advice on newsletters and templates, so I figured others might value knowing that this exists.

n0tice - community noticeboard for sharing news

I have just signed up for the Guardian's n0tice (the 0 is a zero) - it's free. It's a community noticeboard for news and events and I saw it demonstrated by the Guardian's Sarah Hartley @foodiesarah at the MediaFabric event in Prague last week.

First impressions are that it could be useful. It allows readers to rate articles and say whether they are important or trivial etc.  My first post was extremely trivial. I've added a few events, too.

At I write (27 Oct 2011) it's beta invite only - but mine arrived really fast.  Give it a try.

Duedil

This could be useful for UK business journalists or any journalists covering UK business stories.   I've just signed up and had a play. It's fast and has a neat interface.

From the site:  "The best way to search for Companies House information, Directors Search, Companies House UK, and Company Credit Check."

Wordfaire live blogging

I am testing this, but still can't figure out the instructions for embedding. They need to be simplified. However the interface is clean and simple and it looks a useful tool.

From the site: "That's up to you, actually. People are using it to liveblog conferences, press releases, awards ceremonies, sports, wars and disasters; even as a public address system for teachers and a website status board. What will you do with it?"
