Why the Healthcare Industry Needs to Chart a Social Media Course

Why the Healthcare Industry Needs to Chart a Social Media Course | Social Media Information Articles | Scoop.it
Despite years of experience that show social interactions play a key role in helping people better manage their health, there is understandably some hesitancy from the healthcare industry to chart its own course in social media.
UpTempo Group's insight:

It is not a surprise that consumers turn to the Internet as their primary source of health information in today's world. In a recent study, 72% of Internet users looked online for health information within the past year. Not only are more users engaged on the internet to find health information, but people are starting to exchange stories about health and what might lie ahead.

Despite years of knowledge that show social interactions play a key role in helping people better manage their health, there is some hesitancy from the healthcare industry to chart its own course in social media. According to an IMS report, only half of the top 25 pharmaceutical manufacturers have active social media engagement with patients on healthcare-related topics. Online resources bring healthcare into peoples' homes every day and provide valuable peer-to-peer support. Ensuring the accuracy of that information is now more important than ever.

There needs to be a change within the top pharmaceutical companies to be more engaged on social media. There is a demand from healthcare patients that want and need direct online communication from healthcare experts. If this is possible, both patients and experts can benefit from one through conversations and feedback.

WebGL and Its Importance on Healthcare

WebGL and Its Importance on Healthcare | Social Media Information Articles | Scoop.it
UpTempo Group's insight:

WebGL is a Javascript API that allows you to create real-time rendered, interactive 3D graphics without the use of plugins that imitate 3D graphics. WebGL is integrated completely into all the web standards with the usage of image processing and effects as part of the web page canvas. Essentially, WebGL is used in many of today’s websites and apps because of its high speed and efficiency.

Why is WebGL important to healthcare? As many of you already know, the organs in our body are three-dimensional. With WebGL, engineers and software developers are able to create models of our organs, such as the heart and lungs, on mobile applications and websites. This can be a very valuable tool for doctors who are interested in educating their patients on certain diseases.

The collaboration of WebGL and healthcare brings promise for better technology in today’s healthcare. At UpTempo group, we are working closely with very talented developers and designers to bring the promise of WebGL to the health care community.

Google Smart Lenses Get Boost From Alcon Owner Novartis

Google Smart Lenses Get Boost From Alcon Owner Novartis | Social Media Information Articles | Scoop.it
UpTempo Group's insight:

Alcon and Google are collaborating to create smart contact lenses with implanted sensors to increase vision and observe health.

Novartis’s Alcon group will team up with Google’s Google X division on contact lenses with electronic microchips and sensors to observe insulin levels for people with diabetes, or to restore the eye’s natural focus in people who can no longer read without glasses. This breakthrough technology will revolutionize the way modern contacts are created today.

Reports about blood sugar levels, which are important information that can be useful for patients with diabetes, could be drawn from iPhones and Androids. Doctors and patients can also analyze reports on blood sugar levels whenever patients are being checked up, according to a statement Google issued when it released its prototype in January.

“Our dream is to use the latest technology in the miniaturization of electronics to help the quality of life for millions of people,” Google co-founder Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, said Tuesday in the statement.

This is an exciting partnership and one which may deliver a new era of smart contact lenses for improved eye care and wellness.

Southern College of Optometry Opens TearWell Dry Eye Center - Memphis Daily News | Social Media Information Articles | Scoop.it
UpTempo Group's insight:

Approximately 5 million Americans 50 and older are likely to experience dry eye symptoms, according to the National Eye Institute. Nearly three million patients are women since they are more vulnerable because of hormonal fluctuations and may acquire dry eye during pregnancy or after menopause.

“Dry eye sounds really benign,” said Dr. Whitney Hauser, clinical director at the Southern College of Optometry’s new TearWell: Advanced Dry Eye Treatment Center.

In attempt to decrease the number of patients with dry eye, the new TearWell clinic is concentrated firmly to cure dry eye and will be giving a new treatment known as LipiFlow, which has already been tested on by 30,000 volunteers.

“Dryness can cause blurred vision, burning sensations or a feeling there is something in the eye all the time,” Hauser said. “People have had to give up night driving or even quit their jobs.”

This is great news for those who experience dry eye during their daily lives. If this happens to you, research more on LipiFlow and how it can possibly help you.

Big industries and small businesses can use social media to interact with their consumers and release new information instantly.

Handling your online presence is your most effective tool to make an impression on someone who you just met or is a potential customer. Here are several quick reasons why your business needs to adapt to social media and needs to be a priority.

1. It gives users the chance to check out your business online

Social media has become one of the most important sources of information.

As a business owner, you can create your own company page, post your products and services, add your employees and request testimonials from your clients. A professionally maintained page can become the go to source for anyone wanting some basic information about your company.

Facebook Introduces New Updates

Facebook Introduces New Updates | Social Media Information Articles | Scoop.it
UpTempo Group's insight:

Facebook has been the top social network all over the world. Over the years, previous updates like page updates or the new profile design update have been included to Facebook. Now, once again new updates will be coming to Facebook.

Facebook "Save" Button

Users are able to view the saved items in the "More" tab on mobile or by just clicking the link on the left hand side of Facebook when using web. The saved items are listed and categorized wherein you can share it with friends or put it on archive.

Facebook "Mentions" App

The Mentions app is now available and exclusive for celebrities and public figures in US with verified pages or profile. Celebrities or public figures are able to view conversations of their fans and can also join the fan's conversation. Hosting live directly from celebrity's mobile to have Q&As or share updates is also enabled, Facebook reports.

"Nearly 800 million people are connected to public figures on Facebook, and interacting with athletes, musicians, actors and other influencers is an important part of their experience"

Facebook "Buy" Button

Facebook is planning to add a "Buy" button for online shopping and help businesses. It would be an easier way to purchase items posted on the newsfeed.

"Today we're beginning to test a new feature to help business drive sales through Facebook in News Feed and on Pages"-  Facebook.

There would be privacy of credit and debit cards information when having a transaction on Facebook. Facebook will not be getting any interests from the revenue of sold products using the Buy button.

4 Reasons Why Facebook’s New Buy Button Is a Win for Marketers - AllFacebook

4 Reasons Why Facebook’s New Buy Button Is a Win for Marketers - AllFacebook | Social Media Information Articles | Scoop.it

Via Thomas Faltin
UpTempo Group's insight:

Last week, Facebook was experimenting with a new “buy button” feature, allowing businesses to sell merchandise directly on the social media platform. The button — available on desktop and mobile ads and page posts — is currently limited to a few small and midsized businesses in the U.S.

This is an extremely smart business move for Facebook. Facebook users are not able purchase merchandise on their Newsfeed, where small businesses can market to consumers on the biggest social networking website.

Many digital marketers wonder how this will affect them. Here is how it can become very beneficial:

It’s an easy way to convert your audience where they’re spending time: The buy button eliminates the need to pull Facebook users away from the site to make transactions, enabling higher conversion rates through frictionless purchases.

Facebook recognizes that shopping has become more social: 92 percent of today’s consumers say they trust word-of-mouth more than advertising. Recognizing this trend, most retailers and brands have invested in marketing tactics that leverage user-generated content like user photos, ratings and reviews.

It’s a smart tactic for demonstrating Facebook’s return on investment: The direct impact of Facebook marketing on revenue has always been tough to measure. And while there are many methods for proving social media ROI, measuring direct response is the cleanest.

Facebook Launches Save, A Read-It-Later List For Links, Places, And Media ... - TechCrunch | Social Media Information Articles | Scoop.it
UpTempo Group's insight:

Today, Facebook launched a mobile app called Save that lets you store links from News Feed and Facebook Pages for Places, Events, Movies, TV shows, and music to a list where you can view them later. With its launch and progression the next couple of days, Save could let people browse the feed in shorter bursts without worrying about forgetting things they don’t have time to explore right away.

How Save works is that The “Save” button or a little bookmark icon button resides in the bottom right of stories in the mobile and web News Feed, and you can also Save by using the drop-down menu accessed from the arrow in the top right of each story. If you are on the run or currently busy, you can save a certain page or song without the fear of losing it!

This is a breakthrough app that Facebook is willing to compete with competitors like Pocket and Spool. Facebook believes Save has the potential to be one of the biggest Facebook app.

Via Parag Vora
UpTempo Group's insight:

The only thing constant about social media is that it is always changing. It is hard to keep up with the constant change, especially if people own their own local optometry. However, as tiresome as it may sound, it is imperative to be engaged online with your patients. You want to continue to communicate and receive feedback from your patients to ensure customer satisfaction. Utilizing social media will increase brand recognition with Internet users.

A popular trend in social media platforms is assimilating into online search. Hashtags are the perfect example for social networking and SEO connection. Additionally, more and more social media profiles and Optometry Pages are showing up in search engine results. If a person is to type “Medhawk App” onto a google search engine, there may possible show Medhawk’s twitter account on the side as well.

Social networking sites frequently add different and beneficial functionalities as they react to customer requests, commercial requests, and general trends in the marketplace. Keeping on top of changes in social media is the best way to ensure your social marketing strategy is current and effective. Streamline the process by having a strategy that is easy to modify and change.
