Sunday Times ranks most influential social media users | News | New Media Age

The Sunday Times has launched a list of the most influential people in social media as a separate site that will sit outside of its paywall. The Sunday Times Social List, devised with the help of digital agency VCCP, ranks the most active and influential people across Facebook, Foursquare, LinkedIn and Twitter.

“It’s rooted in our editorial content,” he said. “People are inherently competitive in this space and this has the potential to be viral. The list matches our traditional list content but gives us the opportunity to reach new audiences. Since launching paid content, social media hasn’t been a barrier.”

Earlier this month, I wrote about how the promise of Facebook traffic has enticed millions of sites to use Facebook Like buttons and other Facebook social...

...Levi’s saw a 40 times increase in traffic after implementing the Like button in April 2010 and has maintained those levels since.
Outdoor sporting goods retailer Giantnerd.com saw a 100% increase revenue from Facebook within two weeks of adding the Like button.
American Eagle added the Like button next to every product on their site and found Facebook referred visitors spent an average of 57% more money than non-Facebook referred visitors
Children’s clothing retailer Tea Collection added the Like button to sale merchandise and saw daily revenues increase 10 times.
ShoeDazzle added the Like button to all of the products on its site and within the first month had thousands of likes for its top products.
ShoeDazzle also lets people login to its site using Facebook, and Facebook-connected users were 50% more likely to make repeat purchases every month than average shoppers.
When a Ticketmaster user posts a specific event they are attending, or may want to attend, to Facebook, it generates $5.30 of direct ticket sales
Eventbrite reports that a link shared on Facebook is worth $2.52 in ticket sales (see also here and here)

How the NY Times’ social media strategy is evolving...Heron says their social media team has grown from one to three people, and the Times’ strategy has evolved over the last few months. “We tell our journalists and encourage them to not just think about it as distribution and promotion,” she said. “In fact, if you just think about it only as distribution, you’re not getting what you can out of social media, the most that you can, which is really about user interaction, engagement and news gathering.”

At the TV of Tomorrow conference today in San Francisco, Facebook’s Director of Media Partnerships Justin Osofsky revealed that 275 million users have Liked a TV show on Facebook. Those that have Like an average of six shows, which means there’s been roughly 1.65 billion Likes of TV shows. 17 of the 100 most Liked Pages represent TV shows.

Many famous companies and brands have their official Twitter account to post the messages about product, activity and service. After users receive the messages, they may give their comments under the products they want to purchase or the activities that they are interested in.
