2015 will be the tipping point: Half of digital travel researchers will check out flights, hotels and more not only on a desktop or laptop PC but also (or only) via mobile, eMarketer predicts. And smartphones are more commonly used for both researching and booking travel than tablets. Based on eMarketer's latest forecast of digital and mobile travel researching and booking, 128.8 million people in the US will research travel on the internet this year, or 63.0% of internet users. Of that group, 47.4% will do so via mobile. Meanwhile, 106.3 million people (52.0% of internet users) will actually book travel online, including 31.6% of the total who will book travel on their mobile devices.

Every year, mobile keeps on raising the bar higher.  What I would like to know in these statistics is what is the actual share of travel booking that are performed by the big players (Priceline, world hotel chains..) compared to independent or small players. 

This would be relevant and interesting stats to follow year on year.

This article gives tips on how to increase your Google+ followers, some of which I agree with and some I do not. A lot of the tips are the same as all the other platforms (consistency, share others content, share revenant/interesting information, etc) but some tips are very helpful.

Add your Google+ account to your email signature. Might be ether to make it an icon and have it linked to all your profiles.

I don't think you should just randomly ask other users to share your content. This has been said in many other articles I have read as something not to do, and I agree.

It's a good idea to train an employee to run your Google+ account. It's important to stay consistent and for this reason it's a good idea to have someone else who can keep up your account if you're busy or unable to. 

Join communities relevant to your niche. This can help you become part of conversations that can lead to potential new followers. This is a great way to ensure you are involved in current conversations that you can add valuable comments to.

Google Ripples is definitely a tool that seems worth checking out if your business is active on Google+. This tool helps you find influencers within your industry who have a wide reach. This sounds really useful. You can also use this to find someone to become allies with, which can be very effective in online marketing, as I explained in another recent post.

According to Google, in summer 2014, more than half of the searches related to travel and tourism in Spain were made through mobile devices.

Inevitable evolution
The objective is that by 2017, 40% of Company revenues come from its direct sales channels, particularly from members of its Melia Rewards loyalty programme. In parallel, other channels are also expected to grow and contribute the remaining 60% of revenues. All in all, in 2015 online channels in general (direct channels, Online Travel Agencies and Online Tour Operators) will already surpass offline or more traditional channels.
