Goodbye to spam, er, on Twitter

Goodbye to spam, er, on Twitter | Small Business Marketing | Scoop.it
Twitter and its users have perennial problems with spam, as a quick search of Naked Security will reveal.

So you might be surprised that the micro-blogging site's own Twitter identity for report...

Gaurav Pandey's insight:

Twitter has been tighteing control over what goes on to the site of late. We've seen random accounts being blocked, including that of some of the biggest "influencers" on the planet. Truth be told, I always make it a point to ensure I don't have any stupid bots following me, whereas most people would have at least 25% fake accounts. The follower count is dead. Those in the know, know who to talk to.

Assuming you're logged into Twitter, you can just go to an account's profile page, click on the "person icon" pulldown menu, and choose Report @account for spam.

I am very aware of the fact that I am using a digital curation site to highlight external resources about images and Copyright and therefore it seems sensible to highlight some of the pitfalls of this approach.  I note that the Scoop.it example does not come out of this too well!

This chart has some fantastic info for you teachers that use technology in the classroom.

Robert Blair's curator insight, February 14, 2013 2:02 AM

I think that this is such a great visual for my generation. It is so representative of how we rely, and use technology to demonstrate common core values in the classroom. This is great but it also could be our achilles heel, we need to apeal to all types of learners and visual is just one, there are so many more type that must be catered to so that we can be affective.

A Printable Guide to Social Media [#Infographic]

A Printable Guide to Social Media [#Infographic] | Small Business Marketing | Scoop.it

Ask anyone to name the most popular social media tools used by students, and it’s a safe bet everybody could name the top two: Facebook and Twitter.

But those are far from the only online applications making inroads. As administrators warm to engaging students through social media, the list of potential resources at their disposal grows longer by the day.

Facebook and Twitter are the obvious choices. But there are other options- Tumblr, YouTube and Google+, to name three.

Of course, if naming the latest social media tools seems tough, learning how to use them all is harder still. In an attempt to shorten the learning curve, Flowtown and Column Five published this Social Media Cheat Sheet for your reference...

How can a social media guru help educate students, faculty & families. Social Communities

How can a social media guru help educate students, faculty & families. Social Communities | Small Business Marketing | Scoop.it
In today’s day and age, we often look towards the younger generations for advice on how to use technology. Having trouble with your new smart phone? Ask any teenager on the block, they can give you a demo.

Here are four things that schools can do to educate students, families and faculty on proper social media usage, and serve as a go-to resource for their communities:

1.    Set a Social Media Policy for the School

2.    Designate a Social Media “Guru”

3.    Hold Social Media Workshops for the Students and Parents

4.    Offer “Social Media Tutoring”

This is a great article and every school should follow that example!

The basic idea here is to keep your community educated and informed. The more you know and can share with your constituents, the better it is for the entire community.
