Interesting that G+ ranks #2 with so few people actually using it as a network. Shows the power of Google that everybody feel like they have to belong to it but so many don't use it :-) Nobody wants to get left behind.

The What, the Why & the Who – How are Brands Using Social Media? [INFOGRAPHIC]

The What, the Why & the Who – How are Brands Using Social Media? [INFOGRAPHIC] | Social Media Digital Marketing Zimbabwe | Scoop.it

Did you know that just over one quarter (27%) of organizations have a dedicated social media team, with almost two-thirds (65%) assigning social media tasks on top of existing job responsibilities, typically to employees working in marketing or PR?

These findings come from a recent survey, which also revealed that a combination of relevant education and experience is the most sought-after quality for a company looking to hire someone to work in their social media department. Also, the vast majority of firms (86%) measure their social media ROI by standard metrics such as Likes and followers.

65% of organizations cite lack of time as their biggest stumbling block to social media success, and 87% say that increasing brand awareness is their number one goal.

Social Media Managers are always on the lookout for ways to increase engagement within their brand’s Facebook page.

In a recent report, Lynchpin SEO compiled statistics on the types of posts that garnered the most comments, shares, and “likes,” for more than 1,500 brand pages on Facebook.

These stats reveal an array of interesting things about brand pages. For instance:

Updates with emoticons saw higher interaction rates than those with picturesPosts that contain the words “take,” “click,” “submit,” “check,” and “shop” experience significantly lower rates of interaction.

Insights Into the Hot Trend of Social Media Content Curation

Insights Into the Hot Trend of Social Media Content Curation | Social Media Digital Marketing Zimbabwe | Scoop.it

In the guest post published by Jeff Bullas' blog, Intervistato.com's Maria Petrescu interviews Scoop.it's co-founder Marc Rougier after giving her own insights on why curation is a much needed trend.

"Online content curation is a hot trend as business owners and professionals realize that content is vital to add value to their customers and prospects. The trend was already evident in 2011 but 2012 saw an outright explosion of the phenomenon. Also important is delivering and sharing that content on your social media networks." she writes.

She comes back with Marc on the background behind Scoop.it: "The founders were literally in love with social media, but had no time to produce content. They had already been working on another platform, where they published content organized in topics. People loved it, but after a while they felt the growing need of getting content that was more specific, based on their single interests."

Plus other interesting insights and a video of the interview. Check it out!

I really enjoyed this article due to the simplicity of the inforgraphic showcasing the information in a colourful and engaging way. As there are several types of social media such as facebook, twitter and tumblr (blogs) having media stratergy for each one is important. All of them have different communiction features and different target audiences. Kamal has chosen well and agreeing with emma that this really links well with the week 7 lecture topic.
Christine IMC's curator insight, September 26, 2013 7:15 PM

This is a good article as it uses infographics which makes it easier to understand and take in the idea of developing and implementing a media strategy and in this case for social media. The first 4 steps are the basics to developing a strategy and then it expands on it with not great detail but just the quick basic information one needs to know. Although one thing it doesn't mention though is analyzing a market or finding a target market which I beleive helps within the process of developing a strategy, knowing what potential customers to target or what market or segment.

Selina EverHungry Nihalani's curator insight, October 6, 2013 3:23 PM

In today’s market, social media has become an essential factor of building a business strategy. It is very important that we approach and engage customers through social sites. In the beginning of this article, it shows that a successful social media strategy depends on establishing a sound business goal. Goals must be defined clearly to utilize the appropriate social media in achieving the business goal. After the goals are set, it is also important to define the metrics and tactics. This is because these will measure whether the social media efforts are creating consideration and conversions with the target audience. Through this process, companies can evaluate and measure success and failures, and prepare for a better business strategy to succeed in social media.
