Most of us know how rewarding and fun curating content can be. In my opinion curation helps to build bridges between conversations and fosters community. Not only is it an excellent way to stay on top of a subject and continue to learn about it, curation opens doors to new worlds and is the foundation for a more global collective intelligence. 5 Tools to Find and Share Great Content - Socialable

5 Tools to Find and Share Great Content - Socialable | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it

If you use social media as a broadcast channel to only share your content you will not be successful.  You should actually share more of other people’s content rather than your own as long as you find really good content to share.

In this article we outline 5 tools that will help you find and share great content to your followers which will help significantly to increase your value to your community which in turn means you will be more successful.

Tom George's insight:

You will be hard pressed to find two more benefitial people to give you the in's and outs of social media and how to think outside the box. This is a guest post by Ian Cleary of Razor Social who's blog was just recently named one of the top blogs by Social Media Examiner, and it's posted on Socialable.co.uk which is from Lilach Bullock who was just named by Forbes as one of the most influential woman in Social. It doesn't get any better. If I were you I would follow them both.

Web Curation And New Professions: The Content Curator

Web Curation And New Professions: The Content Curator | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article on Mashable:
"Today, however, curation encompasses a whole new catalog of professions, brands and tools — and most revolve around the web.

A curator ingests, analyzes and contextualizes web content and information of a particular nature onto a platform or into a format we can understand. In other words, a curator is like that person at the beach with the metal detector, surfacing items and relics of perceived value. Only, a web curator shares those gems of content with their online audiences.

Some believe "curator" to be a reappropriated, throwaway term, one that simply elevates marginally focused web users.

Some media sites choose to curate articles already published and reported by other sites. For instance, Boing Boing and The Awl feed links that reference news reported by other sites around the web, tailoring content that will resonate with their readership.

More and more people are taking the reins into their own hands. Consumer curators are flocking to sites like The Fancy to browse products and silo them into categories. Other curation tools aren't as consumer-driven but nonetheless help users organize and structure web content that matters to them.

As much as the term gets criticized, curation requires patience, resourcefulness and a keen editing eye. It means becoming fluent in one particular dialect of the web, versus trying to speak its entire language. It's the reason journalists have beats, and the reason you chose one major in college, instead of seven.
Perhaps the best part? Curation is a never-ending job, and it never gets boring..."

5 New Ways To Real-Time Content Curation In 10 Minutes A Day

5 New Ways To Real-Time Content Curation In 10 Minutes A Day | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it
Content has evolved into a 24x7 phenomenon. These 5 new tools can help you spot hot content and share it before anyone else.

This maturation of social media networks like Twitter has (in part) created a need for a more dynamic approach to content curation. Rather than doing your research at the beginning of the week and scheduling your content shares at the coveted peak click periods to assure maximum visibility, a new emphasis on real-time content discovery is in play.

Unfortunately, this type of real-time content discovery had to be performed manually which both consumed a lot of time and made discovery more like prospecting for gold with a pan than sweeping a metal detector over the web. But that’s changing…

Here, in no particular order, are five new tools that can dramatically improve your ability to discover and curate content in real-time without getting your hands dirty… or as dirty.

Social Media Marketing: What's The Point? - Forbes

Social Media Marketing: What's The Point? - Forbes | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it

Advertisers lost control of the media years ago when the Internet gave all the target audiences the power to run their own message delivery systems.I’m not sure we’d fully recovered from that peaceful revolution when another gigantic wave hit us, then another and another: Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, blogs, Yelp, Foursquare, and on and on.

The whole Social Media thing can be very confusing which partly explains the problems some companies are experiencing with it.

Facebook rumored to buy facial recognition tech startup Face.com for up to $100 million

Facebook rumored to buy facial recognition tech startup Face.com for up to $100 million | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it

Ready for another post-IPO Facebook acquisition rumor?

Israeli business publication Calcalist reports (in Hebrew) that the social networking giant is eyeing a purchase of face recognition technology company Face.com.

Newsgeek reports that the deal size could be between $80 million and $100 million.

This is pure speculation at this point, and we currently don’t have any sources backing up the story, but it’s an acquisition that would make a ton of sense.

In fact, Face.com has long been rumored to be an acquisition target for Facebook, even way before there was talk about the social networking company going public.

The Brain As A Network | The Artful Brain | Learn Science at Scitable

The Brain As A Network | The Artful Brain | Learn Science at Scitable | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it

Composed of over 1013 neurons, the human brain has been said to have more synapses than stars in the universe. How do you begin to understand all the madness compressed into the three pound ball of flesh? I have no idea, and I don't trust anyone who claims to know either. However, there are some clever approaches to chipping away at the problem.

At the systems-level, the brain distributes computation over multiple regions. A good analogy is a peer-to-peer network that distributes number crunching across multiple computers, where each computer is specialized to perform some specific aspect of the computation. Abstract this by simply calling the computers "nodes" (which can represent anything, for example, brain regions) and the connections "edges," and viola! you have reached the entry point of network theory, which is a quantitative and visual approach to understanding how nodes relate to one another and how networks function as a whole.

Over 100 Incredible Infographic Tools and Resources (Categorized) | DailyTekk | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it

I love a good infographic! After all, knowledge is power and the visualization of data makes absorbing information all the easier. Well-designed infographics have a way of pulling me into a subject I’d normally never care to know about. As a designer I can attest to the crazy amount of time it takes to make a compelling, useful infographic. I have to say I knew about many of the great links, resources and tools I’ve linked to here on this post before but I dug deep and found some new and exciting infographic tools that I’m willing to bet you haven’t seen before. Items 1-5 under the Data Visualization Tools and Software category are sufficiently capable of arming even a novice designer with the ability to produce a powerful infographic (though I’m sure experts will find them handy as well). In short, if you love infographics, data visualization and information design as much as I do, you’re going to love this post. As always, leave me a comment with your thoughts and suggestions!

New Features That Make Google+ a No Brainer for Business Marketing

New Features That Make Google+ a No Brainer for Business Marketing | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it

People ask me all the time why I’m so excited about Google+ as a marketing tool. After all, it doesn’t (yet) have anywhere near the user numbers of social media juggernauts like Facebook or Twitter. Doesn’t it just make sense to go where the numbers are? When I hear that I stop and wonder if it’s really 2012. Broadcasting to the big numbers was the way to go for the Mad Men of the 60s, but savvy marketers like Seth Godin realize that these days it’s all about the tribes we lead. In other words, if you can connect with a smaller group of people who are passionate about what you’re selling, you don’t need to fire a shotgun at big crowds.

This brings me back to why I’m such a Google+ evangelist. I haven’t seen anything anywhere any time so readily available to anyone and everyone that can help you find and connect to your tribe as powerfully as can G+.

The Curation-Over-Creation Trend That Fueled Pinterest's Rapid Growth

The Curation-Over-Creation Trend That Fueled Pinterest's Rapid Growth | Social Media, Curation, Content Today | Scoop.it

Laura Paine has a simple answer when asked why Pinterest exploded in popularity at this particular juncture in Internet history. The former reporter watched her newspaper cut positions, go from being a daily to a weekly and focus more on creating short, Q&A pieces, video and photo galleries in an effort to cling to dwindling online traffic.

"People aren't really reading anymore," said Paine, who now works for the public relations firm InkHouse.

A new Engauge white paper breaks down the make-up of the average Pinterest user and shows that the end result of less reading is more of a focus on content curation than creation. The timing of that trend, combined with a stunning design when Internet users are focusing more on visual than text, has allowed Pinterest to explode in popularity.
