CBSNews.com to debut social show "What’s Trending" | Curation in streaming live

CBSNews.com to debut social show "What’s Trending" | Curation in streaming live | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it
Next week, CBSNews.com will debut a new show called “What’s Trending” that bridges a live, weekly webcast with social media interaction. “What’s Trending fills the gap as a broadcast show for the internet generation,” explains host and executive producer Shira Lazar. “It’s not just a show with a social strategy added on to it — it’s powered by the community and social media.”

The show’s blog and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) are already up and running, focusing on news stories trending in social media. “We’re aiming to engage the Facebook generation, people that might be finding news in different ways over their social networks, but who might want more context, a more extensive experience and going to the source of the news and links they see in their feeds, as well as creating a conversation around those stories,” Lazar tells Lost Remote. “Covering what’s trending online allows us to take on everything that people are buzzing about (and it’s obviously easier than ever to discover that) from Middle East revolutions to online memes.”

The concept of re-purposing content is maturing. If you're ready to take your content process to the next level, you could realize significant opportunities if you leverage your time, effort, resources and content.

In their book, Content Rules, Ann Handley and CC Chapman invite us to:

"reimagine, don't recycle. Recycling is an afterthought; good content is intentionally reimagined, at its inception, for various platforms and formats."....

A Guide to Innovative Content Types and Curation | SEOmoz

A Guide to Innovative Content Types and Curation | SEOmoz | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it
Producing great content is a high ROI activity. Too often however I see people focused on producing individual pieces of content aiming to get links and attention.
Putting together a content strategy requires much more than a single piece of content - it requires a vision and strategy for how you're going to publish your content, why type of content you will be publishing, how your audience will engage with it and so on and so forth.

I like to think that instead of focusing on pieces of content - you should focus on the content platform. This shift requires lateral thinking, research and creativity. In this post I'm going to break down some alternative content types that I've been consuming recently. I've provided examples but try and look beyond the individual posts and focus on the underlying platform and think about what makes it succesful....

What is Curation, and Why Does it Matter Now?

What is Curation, and Why Does it Matter Now? | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it
What is curation, and why is it the newest buzz worthy digital media concept?

Through selection, cultivation and omission, curators save us time, make the frame and architect the experiences we have. They preserve what is worth preserving. They study and collect in the margins, so that when it is needed, an informed collection is available to those who need it.

Several recent books, including Steve Rosenbaum's Curation Nation, have addressed this topic. In San Francisco, Tom Foremski has organized the SF Curators Salon, to focus a pretty dynamic and web savvy group of people in on the issues and opportunities in this field....

The Semantic Web is Coming to Newsrooms this Summer, Hearst's CTO Michael Dunn | VIDEO | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it
An industry initiative, lead by The New York Times, the AP and Getty Images, to surface deep data around news content including video, will be introduced in the Hearst newsroom this summer.

This will be an initial phase, say Michael Dunn, CTO of Hearst Interactive in this interview with Beet.TV
The implementation comes with finalization of standards by the IPTC. These standards involve the customization of the W3C's RDFa.

According to Dunn, the adoption of these semantic Web protocols will provide greater contextulization of news along with powerful tools for syndication and curation.

The role blogging has played in news coverage over the past 10 years has been much talked about, but it's hard to imagine our website without the voices of our Pestons, Flanders, Robinsons, with many more besides.

The contribution of analysis and explanation the experts of BBC News now make to the site is undoubtedly one of our major strengths. The reason for mentioning this now is that, as we promised earlier this year, this week we are completing what we see as a pretty fundamental reinvention of how our blogs operate.....

The Curation Economy and The Three 3C’s of Information Commerce | Brian Solis | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it
I always appreciate when a very complex and important subject is simplified to ease understanding. Curation is no exception.
The truth is that for several years there were two kinds of people in social media, those who create content and those who consume it.

Historically, creators were among the digital elite, the so-called digerati, as only a small percentage was actively dedicated to creating. But there’s a world wide web out there and everyday people consuming social content dramatically outnumber the digerati.

Curation - The Third Web Frontier - SVW

Curation - The Third Web Frontier - SVW | Social Media Content Curation | Scoop.it
Everyone realizes that the web is entering a new phase in its development.

One indication of this transition is the proliferation of attempts to explain the changes that are occurring. Functional explanations emphasize the real time web, collaborative systems and location-based services.

Technical explanations argue that the interconnectivity of data is the most significant current development. They consider the web's new frontiers to be closely related to the semantic web or the "web of things".
