Tim Fernback's insight:

An article and some videos on how Twitter is encroaching on traditional media adveristing.  It is all about engagement and merrying mobile devices to traditional media (here mostly TV).  In theory, advertisers see a 2 X or more greater level of audience engagement (and therefore purchasing) when you combine multiple advertising media at the same time.  Again, this leads to Twitter's increased relevancy and valuation as a company.  Like Facebook, Twitter will become more valuable in the eyes of investment bankers as this moblie and cross-platform engagement theory becomes reality.

Alex Turner: LinkedIn is improving the way we do business | Social Media Company Valuations and Value Drivers | Scoop.it
Social network moving from a gimmick to a business tool
Tim Fernback's insight:

The key to LinkedIn's value is locked up in the fact that LinkedIn generates $1.30 for every hour a user spend on the site, while Facebook generates 6.2 cents per hour.  Linkedin has 250M users to Facebook's 1.2B.

This is why LinkedIn trades at a multiple of 700+ times EBITDA while Facebook trades at 165 X EBITDA.

Although not a social media networking company, Braintree's sale to EBAY /Paypal for $800M (CASH) shows the power (and value) of ecommerce over mobile platforms.  Braintree's mobile payment ap was used by only 4,000 merchants but was gaining traction in the highly desirable youth market.  Braintree's API connections also were highly desireable.  Valuations for companies like Braintree demonstrate reasons why social networking companies like Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn are fixed on mobile devices to creat value.
