Facebook Is Ending the Free Ride

Facebook Is Ending the Free Ride | Social Media Collaboration | Scoop.it

Facebook pulled the best practical joke of the internet age: the company convinced countless celebrities, bands, and "brands" that its service was the best way to reach people with eyeballs and money. Maybe it is! But now that companies have taken the bait, Facebook is holding the whole operation hostage.

Update: To be perfectly clear, none of this will affect the average Facebook user's ability to freely use Facebook—only entities that use Facebook as a promotional tool.

A source professionally familiar with Facebook's marketing strategy, who requested to remain anonymous, tells Valleywag that the social network is "in the process of" slashing "organic page reach" down to 1 or 2 percent. This would affect "all brands"—meaning an advertising giant like Nike, which has spent a great deal of internet effort collecting over 16 million Facebook likes, would only be able to affect of around a 160,000 of them when it pushes out a post. Companies like Gawker, too, rely on gratis Facebook propagation for a huge amount of their audience. Companies on Facebook will have to pay or be pointless....

This exactly makes my point that the window of time to become an influencer with any social media plug in is small, until the site grows big enough the rules change to serve the site not the users. http://www.InspiredMC.com

Social Networking For Marketers: How Pinterest Crushes Facebook

Social Networking For Marketers: How Pinterest Crushes Facebook | Social Media Collaboration | Scoop.it

Pinterest has a higher concentration of people who are in a ‘buy’ state of mind, while Facebook users are more interested in interacting with friends - and brands.... Understanding what people do on different social networks is the key to effectively using those networks for marketing. Companies currently spend 8.4% of their marketing budgets on social media, and that’s expected to grow to 21.6% in the next five years. But with so many social networks competing to grab marketing dollars, determining the most effective channels can be extremely difficult. To illustrate, let’s look at how Facebook and Pinterest stack up against one another. Different Networks For Different Reasons While both Facebook and Pinterest offer deep customer segmentations and user engagement, it would be a mistake to target audiences in the same way across both networks. For example, you wouldn’t market your product to someone shopping at a trendy boutique the same way you would to someone walking down the street with their friends. In a store, you’d likely look to make a sale, while on the street you’d probably have more luck building brand awareness....

Elsie Whitelock's insight:

It is so intersting that Pintrest is gaining so much traction;  I equate this to the old model of a beautiful house and home print magazine where females sit back with a cup of tea (or latte) and browse beautiful images allowing them to escapethe day's pressures for a little while. Also adding to this, is  the fact that Pinterest is so incredibly easy to use. Unlike google+ !!!!

Why I've decided to shut down my Facebook account immediately

Why I've decided to shut down my Facebook account immediately | Social Media Collaboration | Scoop.it

Facebook has been very kind to me over the years and I've written so many good articles about it that now it is time to add a little balance.

Nobody has written more positive stuff about Facebook over the last 4-5 years. I was so overwhelmingly positive about the company that plenty of people suggested on a regular basis that I was a fan boy or that I owned stock in the company. Since 2006 I thought that Facebook was the best run company and most interesting change in technology we have seen in generations. It inspired revolutions across the Middle East, attracted well over a billion users and provided some of the most targeted marketing solutions in the history of the world. Over the last 2-3 months my mind has been changing though and today I’ve decided to de-activate my account on Facebook. Here is why….

I'll definitely try this on FB account. I've tried making my own timeline banner with an edited vaio inspired logo of my name, I hope I said it right, but anyway I should make this by the end of the day.
