Val Stilwell MSCS's insight:

There is an overlap... between word of mouth and organic searching.. both have great value and need to be managed. I do think tho that the very strongest technique is to develop first a strong WOM drive strategy to gain traction in a category unless the category itself is on fire then, you may want to up the SEO drive first.

Facebook is holding steady as the leveling field of connection.  It spans professional to personal and is worth of the attention. LinkedIn has such a professional flavor to it that the connections remain at a professional level. If you're doing something professional you'll take the time to log into LinkedIn... but more likely you'll more easily log into Facebook where you can easy change from personal to professional in the same channel...

Careful Curation and SEO

Careful Curation and SEO | Social Media On The Loose~ | Scoop.it
Content curation makes some marketers sweat because of the old duplicate content rule. Here's what Matt Cutts, Google's head of webspam, has to say on the subject.

Via Ally Greer
Val Stilwell MSCS's insight:

Curation can be presented as a digital magazine chocked full of thoughtfully selected  articles. And just like a magazine, the biases will lie with the curator and those attracted to the same material.

From the article:

Don’t let aggregation give curation a bad name, though. Cutts points out that it’s a different story if your curated content is “content that nobody else has access to, or if you’re writing your own content, or if you’re really putting a lot of effort into curation.”

Why CEOs Need To "Get" Social Media

Why CEOs Need To "Get" Social Media | Social Media On The Loose~ | Scoop.it
Mark my words: If it isn’t already, social media is going to be like email for all tech users: indispensable. It is no longer acceptable for CEOs to cast social media aside because they either don’t understand it or don’t want to mess with it.
Val Stilwell MSCS's insight:

This is a huge issue! The only reason they don't get it is because they don't understand that the new word of mouth has gone digital. It's a changing of the guard (old guy vs new guy) issue. The first subject when interviewing clients has to do with their exit strategy - if it involves growth then sell off, there must be an understanding of the value of social media.

Discover the role of social media in brand visibility, how social media use differs in B2B vs. B2C companies and between large and small businesses, and more.
Val Stilwell MSCS's insight:

Remember this is B2B - Not B2C! A very different creature. Do not get them mixed up.

The minute the ability for conversation and two way dialog is cut out or devalued, then the social media affectiveness for B2C becomes only advertising slung at the wall. I recently heard the CEO of Digital Sherpa say he "couldn't care less about "likes for favorites" on Facebook... his main concern was SEO numbers... and that's where I saw his flaw for not recognizing that his audience was all B2C. He impacted several entrepreneurs the wrong way. Eventually he retracked but...  his audience was not able to recognize the disconnect.  B2C Social media is all about the ability of choice - for hold possible conversations with the brands you "like".

Twitter to roll out tweet scheduling, but is it that revolutionary? | Social Media On The Loose~ | Scoop.it
What does this new feature mean for marketers? How do they use Scheduled Tweets? How can they maximize its value? Is there anything they should be aware of?

Via Ally Greer
Val Stilwell MSCS's insight:

Twitter's bringing this feature inhouse - I say why not. But I wonder, if there's going to be an intuitive auto scheduler as well like Buffer or Hootlet.

Ally Greer's curator insight, October 17, 2013 3:06 PM

There are plenty of opportunities that come from the ability to schedule tweets on Twitter, most of which are covered here.

That said, I'm not sure if this will be as big of a deal as it's made out, because this has been a feature on so many third party tools for quite some time now. Tweet scheduling isn't a new concept at all, thanks to Buffer, Tweetdeck, Sprout Social, TweetDeck, etc.

Speaking for myself, I rarely even use Twitter.com to send or consume tweets. There's a reason why social media managers use third party apps, like Leo states - there are other features like analytics, being able to post from multiple accounts in one place, etc. In my opinion, this won't change much.

Deanna Dahlsad's curator insight, October 18, 2013 3:59 PM

As pointed out by others, such as Ally Greer who first posted or scooped this, the scheduling mechanism isn't new to people who have been using third party tools. However, for those who either do not like the extra logins etc. of third party tools, do not like to pay for them, or who just want to tweet and don't care about other bells & whistles (and there are a lot of those people!), this is indeed a good thing.

Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com's curator insight, October 19, 2013 12:54 PM
