10 Surprising Twitter Statistics To Help You Reach More Followers | Social Media | Scoop.it

Since social media is changing so often, it can be really hard to keep up with stats and trends that affect how you use it. I quite often forget the facts that I’ve read, or I use Twitter based on stats that are outdated now.

In fact, when I recently looked at some of the latest social media statistics, it hit me that the fastest growing demographic on Twitter is is the 55–64 year age bracket. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what’s changed.

In case you’re in the same boat with me, I gathered up some really interesting Twitter stats that can help you improve the way you reach your followers. Especially when trying to gear up for the new social media for business, being in the know of the latest stats is more valuable than ever....

Consumers Trust Social Media Recommendations (And Facebook Most Of All) [INFOGRAPHIC] - AllTwitter | Social Media | Scoop.it

People trust product and brand recommendations from other people more than they trust traditional media or advertising channels, and friends and family recommendations on social media channels, particularly Facebook, are trusted most of all.

The average consumer mentions specific brands over 90 times per week in conversations with friends, family and co-workers, and shoppers trust Facebook (68 percent) more than blogs (63 percent) and retail websites (63 percent). And while social media overall is deemed a better source of recommendations than other channels, such as email, Pinterest (56 percent), YouTube (51 percent) and Twitter (41 percent) are seen as less reliable than Facebook.

This infographic from Social Media Link takes a closer look at the value of social media recommendations.

CapitalOneSparkVoice: Snapchat, Instagram And Vine For Social Media Marketing?

CapitalOneSparkVoice: Snapchat, Instagram And Vine For Social Media Marketing? | Social Media | Scoop.it

By creating personalized images for the right audience with a bent toward either real-time fun or extended sharing, brands are building a more visual experience for their customers.

Consider all the time, energy and money that goes into the average 30-second commercial or magazine ad. Now imagine those ads being cut down to 10 seconds or a couple of square inches. Now imagine them self-destructing after 10 seconds, Inspector Gadget-style, never to be seen again by consumers.

If all of this seems like an insane way to market a small business, welcome to the crazy times of social media. That’s exactly how the massively popular Snapchat app works, and businesses are jumping on board. Using photos or short videos, companies are reaching out to customers with fleeting promotions, contests in real time and quick peeks at leaked product images....

2 Reasons to Take Images Seriously on Twitter:

#1 – Twitter Now Shows Images by Default

Twitter recently started featuring images by default on their newsfeed.   Previously you needed to click on the image to make it show.  Now it shows immediately – this is huge for getting your tweets noticed as many people are still not uploading images.

#2  Tweets with Images uploaded to Twitter are nearly twice as likely to be ReTweeted

Here’s the deal.  Twitter is twice as visual as you think!  Tweets with images uploaded to pic.Twitter.com were nearly twice as likely to be retweeted while the use of Twitpic increased the odds by just over 60%.  This means that if you upload images directly into Twitter using their native “image” uploader you are almost twice as likely to get ReTweeted
