Want to be a superstar, but no time for social media? Fake it with Ghost Tweeter. - Schaefer Marketing Solutions: We Help Businesses {grow}

Want to be a superstar, but no time for social media? Fake it with Ghost Tweeter. - Schaefer Marketing Solutions: We Help Businesses {grow} | Social Media for Business | Scoop.it

"What if I told you that you could become an industry “thought leader” without ever writing a blog post. Or, that you could achieve Twitter stardom without personally sending a single tweet.I didn’t believe it either, but some people are apparently doing it. Maybe even some people you follow. And you may never guess how they’re doing it.

Ghost Tweeting is one of a number of companies that have emerged to outsource the writing and distribution of all your blogs, tweets, and posts. They will even handle all the social media engagement for you. “All the benefits, none of the work,” reads the tagline on their website....

Thanks for your comment Malek. I think the days of "ghost" writing on social media are limited without open and honest disclosure and transparency. Nothing wrong with teams tweeting but many, including high profile personalities, authors, politicians and many others will resist. When the you know what hits the fan, that's when the trouble starts. Of course, when the intern screws up, you can always claim you were hacked LOL.

We first had fake accounts, then fake fans and now...? if there's a will, there's always a shortcut.......!!
Mike Ellsworth's curator insight, August 8, 2013 7:46 AM

As others have noted, this approach is not only not authentic, it's borderline unethical. But how does it really differ from hiring consultants to design and write marketing material for your business?

What do you think of this technique? Comment below.

We just had a big article in the cincinnati Enquirer on this . My sense is that it will be abused and the small guy is going to take the fall for inveting in scams. Do you see this as an issue ?
Marty Koenig's comment, August 20, 2013 7:47 PM
Every new funding opportunity for entrepreneurs has it's potential downside risks. For crowdfunding platforms, like in the article Anthony mentioned, if they aren't astute enough to have a good lawyer that understands SEC laws and is up on crowdfunding, then they lose. For the backers of crowdfunding campaigns, there is always a risk that nothing will come of it - e.g. Kickstarter does not guarantee that the product producer will ever deliver anything. I see both of those as outliers. The only way people wanting to start a crowdfunding campaign can avoid problems is to not guess at this. Just like those who guess when they think they know how to start and run a business, most don't - unless they've done it and failed multiple times. Those who get advice from experienced consultants will do better on both sides of the table.

Hello Marty, I just ran across you on Scooped. I just joined a few minutes ago. I like what you have done and are doing. I have a wonderful site waiting to be launched, but ran into some snags. I am the sole survivor working on it so budget is leaking slowly. You know much about crowdfunding? I joined gofunme but nothing is happening. Any suggestions? Need the campaign to hire people to do a great job to finish my site. I know what I want, but don't have the professionals to hire.Val

Take A Look At What Happens Every Single Minute On The Internet

Take A Look At What Happens Every Single Minute On The Internet | Social Media for Business | Scoop.it
Early last year we learned that one hour of YouTube is uploaded every second. It was a bracing reminder of just how many people are spending their time online simultaneously.

Created by rewards site Qmee, the infographic "Online In 60 Seconds" is a pie chart that shows off the sheer amount of online activity that takes place every single minute. The amount of YouTube videos uploaded has already increased from January 2012's 60 hours per minute to 72. Additionally, over 1.8 million things are liked on Facebook, and 278 thousand bon mots tweeted. Not depicted in the chart: the amount of work that is going undone while all of these items are being viewed.

What Instagram Video Means For News | ABC News

What Instagram Video Means For News | ABC News | Social Media for Business | Scoop.it

...Up to 15 seconds of video, 13 custom filters, and a "cinema mode" for stabilization. Those were some of the features added to Instagram last week, instantly turning the popular photo-sharing app used by 130 million people into a video-sharing service. Within the first 24 hours of the announcement, over 5 million videos had been uploaded.Sure, some were of frothy lattes and the Miami Heat winning the NBA finals, but the new features have wider appeal than to just casual users.

As newsrooms are now relying on social media as a platform to discover and deliver the news, Instagram's new video features will add another piece of content into the mix for organizations: short, solid-looking video clips.Beth Bennett, assistant professor at The Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University, believes this will be the next big thing for news organizations....

How Social Media Is Changing Customer Service (And Why Big Brands Must Try Harder) | AllTwitter

How Social Media Is Changing Customer Service (And Why Big Brands Must Try Harder) | AllTwitter | Social Media for Business | Scoop.it

More challenges ahead for businesses hoping to deliver "social service" online...What do you do when you have a problem with a brand’s product or service? You go online, right? You’re not alone. Close to six in ten (57 percent) of customers search for a solution online before taking any further action, and they’re increasingly reaching for a brand’s social media outposts. Almost half of social media users (47 percent) have received customer care on a channel such as Twitter or Facebook, and 37 percent now prefer customer service through social media rather than by telephone. But brands still have work to do. While 80 percent of Twitter users expect a response to a consumer service enquiry within a day, just 40 percent of tweets to the 25 largest online retailers are answered within 24 hours, and many are ignored altogether....

Why Purpose-Driven Social Brands Will Win Marketing 3.0 [Infographic]

Why Purpose-Driven Social Brands Will Win Marketing 3.0 [Infographic] | Social Media for Business | Scoop.it

In a consumer-driven economy, the good a company does is increasingly becoming its defining competitive advantage. While CSR, cause marketing and sustainability might have seemed like nice-to-dos just a few years ago, articulating your brand's core values is now critical in terms of the reputational, employee productivity, and bottom line impact to your company. As Rich Fernandez, Director of Executive Development at Google, said recently at Sustainable Brands '13, If a company's product is not improving lives, it's diminishing them." In the face of rising consumer activism, Marketing 3.0 will be won by those who become purpose-driven social brands. To do so, the CMO, CSO, CSR, and Foundation leads must align to bring a cohesive brand story to life that clearly defines the company's "social license to operate....

The Future Of Video Clip Marketing: Vine Or Instagram? | Digital Relevance

The Future Of Video Clip Marketing: Vine Or Instagram? | Digital Relevance | Social Media for Business | Scoop.it

With Instagram's video feature, businesses have a new option for video marketing. But Vine offers a different experience and aesthetic. Which do you prefer?

him andLast week, Instagram launched new video functionality to compete with Twitter’s fast-growing video service Vine. Magnificent 15-second, completely editable and non-looping video has since invaded the stream of filter-loving photographers everywhere. Steven Spielberg wannabes, rejoice!

Making the Decision: Which is right for your company?

In an industry where the quick-change is just a way of life, choosing the best marketing outlets can be as complicated as learning another language. With companies recognizing and utilizing social media as a key marketing tool, new companies are popping up every day all over the social media map.

With the latest update in the smartphone industry creating yet another marketing outlet, companies are facing another fork in the road. Take the left turn and use Vine, an app that “wowed” the world in six seconds, or turn right and use Instagram, the already popular photo-editing and -sharing app. If you’re a company, big or small, which do you choose? Before making the choice, you should understand what you’re getting yourself into....
