On streets across Nairobi, it is easy to spot university or satellite campus signboards advertising a variety of programmes and opportunities.

While this could be a sign of improved access to education in Kenya, some employers and education officials worry that the proliferation of universities and the commercialisation of higher education have created schools that produce poorly prepared graduates who cannot meet labour market demands.
