The Power to Connect Through Visual Storytelling

The Power to Connect Through Visual Storytelling | Social Media | Scoop.it

Excerpt from guest post from the blog "Convince & Convert".
The author of article is Jessica Gioglio, co-author about new book with Ekaterina Walter called The Power of Visual Storytelling.

Here are some highlights:
- We’re Marketing in the Age of Infobesity
With the average consumer attention span now between 2.8-8 seconds, curating snackable pieces of content into a visual story has emerged as a powerful strategy.
As shared through powerful case studies in the book from B2B, B2C companies both large and small, visual storytelling is helping marketers stand above the noise, grow a vibrant and engaged community and drive action.

- Relevancy Has a Deadline
We are at the beginning of a new era in marketing that aligns perfectly with visual storytelling. With the wealth of social data available and real-time listening tools, companies are evolving their strategies to be relevant in the moment with the goal of connecting consumers with the right message at the right time.

- The Consumer Reigns Supreme and Their Attention is the New Commodity
The best storytellers know and play to their audience, whether it’s a dramatic pause, a well-inserted joke, or crafting a perfect tweetable soundbite. Companies need to take the same approach with their social media channels. Visual Storytelling is far more than an attention seeking tactic, it’s a powerful strategy for showcasing the human side of your company..."

Under 8 second attention spans for consumers!  Of course, drowning in a sea of competing claims & noise.  So what do you think it is in B2B with key decision makers?

Whatever the number (still searching for credible data) your ability to be tighter and more succinct in getting early attention is vital.

I say early because once you've established initial trust you can engage together over problems and solutions for hours !

So some good learnings here - up to a point...

I'm not making any claims or implying that I have some secret method of getting Google to render multiple Rich Snippets of my Google authorship head shot but I am curious how this "exact match" query generated this freaky set of SERPs especially since I read that Google is cutting back the volume of rich snippets in their organic SERPs?

The syntax of this Google query looks like this

The blog article is hosted on my WordPress site on FerreeMoney

Content Marketing System Best Practices

The Chrome search results renders multiple rich snippets whereas the Firefox version is different and only 1 of my rich snippets shows up but a similar set of SERPs show up for the same exact match query?

Now that we can add our Google Authorship to our Scoop.it Topics and post our Scooped stories directly to our Google+ Brand Pages, I suspect this body of work of articles, videos, decks, Tweets and posts to G+ that focus on content marketing system best practices can be cloned for a other Hummingbird friendly and semantic web searchable phrases for my pals in the personal injury space?

Ken Cooper's curator insight, April 21, 2014 11:48 AM

Shaughnessy notes that reputation is often the chief measurement of innovative companies. Outputs, like the number of new products or patents, are also easy to measure. He looks to inputs as a key indicator of innovation capability. That is, where the raw material for innovation efforts comes from, and how it is processed into the final product.

I like Shaughnessy's emphasis on inputs, because the practice of innovation depends on inputs as the primary sources of innovation opportunity.

"When Jonah Berger was a graduate student at Stanford, in the early aughts, he would make a habit of reading page A2 of the Wall Street Journal, which included a list of the five most-read and the five most-shared articles of the day. “I’d go down to the library and surreptitiously cut out that page,” he recalls. “I noticed that what was read and what was shared was often different, and I wondered why that would be.” What was it about a piece of content—an article, a picture, a video—that took it from simply interesting to interesting and shareable? What pushes someone not only to read a story but to pass it on?"

Graig Angarella's curator insight, February 26, 2014 2:44 AM

I enjoyed reading this article, because it seemed to go hand-in-hand with what we have learned so far in class this semester. In different terms, it simply outlines a successful marketing plan. To start, it mentions clearly defining your objectives and business goals. As we have learned, this is important and should always be the first thing we do. In addition to stating we should monitor our progress, the article says that we should re-assess our strategy at regular intervals. This makes sense, because it would keep complacency from occurring. Next, and as we know, we should correctly identify our target audience, and then after that, we should make sure to target the right social media platforms. One thing that differs however, is that the article recommends creating a social media calendar. I liked that it had mentioned identifying the best marketing channels as well to reach out in the best way possible to consumers. Lastly, step five discussed the Unique Selling Proposition (USP), and it's importance in social media marketing. The USP (which I just learned about today) is the crucial feature or set of features that sets your company apart from others in similar businesses. Overall, this article not only refreshed my memory towards a proper marketing plan, but also introduced new marketing tactics, that I could see becoming very useful for one's company.

How Social Media Changed the Way We Consume News [Infographic] | Social Media | Scoop.it

Social media is fast becoming one of the main destinations for news online. An infographic created by the University of Florida Online, explores the evolution of the news industry and the way news is consumed.

In 2012 there were 2.4 billion Internet users, and 1.4 billion of them were using social media. Nearly 50 percent of Internet users surveyed said they regularly or occasionally heard about a breaking story on social media before it broke on mainstream sources. In fact, since 2009, social media buzz has resulted in a 57 percent increase in traffic to news sites.

Now online dominates the news market, with 64.5 percent of people going to official sites like The New York Times to get their news. Surprisingly, nearly 30 percent of people still get their news from the papers, but social media is hot on print’s heels with 27.7 percent of consumers.
