Why Social Is the New SEO

Why Social Is the New SEO | Social Media | Scoop.it

Matt Cutts’ video on the role of social media in SEO suggests that future search results may provide tighter integration with social results. It’s evident that the web is an intensely social place.

Maybe the size of your social empire is irrelevant. But your social presence is very relevant when it comes to search'.

Jelly, the latest social media network, is an interesting mix of traditional social media and something new.
Naomi Assaraf's insight:

What Jelly lacks for in the definition of how a social platform "should" be, it creates a sense of excitement that FB's 10 year reign will finally phase out and a new transition into something more meaningful for the user and their friends is on the horizon. Needless to say, I'm curious to see where this goes.

Content Curation Tools: The Ultimate List - Meg Sutton via Curata Blog

Content Curation Tools: The Ultimate List - Meg Sutton via Curata Blog | Social Media | Scoop.it

Great list here, but "ultimate" not even close (lol). A few of my favorite content curation tools NOT mentioned include:

* Google Plus (duh, G+ is a great tool never included in these lists).
* BuzzSumo (tells me what's trending).
* WordPress is another often overlooked curation tool. Wordpress is really thousands of tools thanks to plugins.
* Guess obvious tools like YouTube, Vimeo and Twitter they left off due to how obvious they are.
* Also surprised they don't extend to inbound marketing tools like Marketo, Eloqua and Pardot.
* On the same vein I would include leading CRMs like SalesForce.
* Testing tools like Optimizely are missing too.

Guess the question is where do you draw the line between content sourcing, sharing and blogging. I tend to mashup all of those things and that means "ultimate" would look more like that huge Brian Solis graphic and I suspect that is what this post was trying to avoid.

About half the apps on this list are new to me, so will have fun exploring...again.

Influence: What Are Tools Like Klout Really Measuring?

Influence: What Are Tools Like Klout Really Measuring? | Social Media | Scoop.it

A very interesting comparison of several measurement tools and what they really measure. [note mg]

For marketers, PR professionals and customer service teams, personal influence measurement tools can save time and help facilitate business decisions. Tools such as Klout, PeerIndex, Kred and TweetLevel are being used by brands to rank the relative importance of customers and prospects, prioritize customer service responses, and identify groups of influencers to target with perks and product sampling promotions.

But what are these personal influence measurement tools really measuring? Are they really an effective way to understand which of your customers are more influential?

It is easy to understand influence as a concept; if you can get other people to do something, you have influence. But it’s not at all easy to define how you would measure influence. As Nathan Gilliatt has pointed out, there is no such thing as a “unit of influence” – an observable, measurable event that reflects influence.

But can they be empirically measured, and if so, what does your score actually mean? This article gives an overview of some of the products/services that purport to give you an influence score. Whether you take it seriously is entirely up to you!

Why Social Media Maps Will Remain Very Popular

For at least the last two years, maps have been a great part of the social media landscape. Everywhere you look, brands are using them with great results. But to many like myself, maps are not the
Naomi Assaraf's insight:

Our media consumption is evolving to become more visual as we have more content to consume. Question: How does search play into images that can't be read, and therefore scored (think page rank)? There's a big opportunity to explore (and refine) in the field of image identification with respect to search.  Jelly, an app that crowdsources information from others to understand more about an image, takes the first step towards this insufficiently explored opportunity. But the reality is that people want to search and get an immediate, finite answer without waiting for one. If Jelly (or another app like it) can build up its database large enough, it has an immense power to partner with search engines so that images, which are going to continually be on the rise, can be scored in an SEO-like fashion.
