Infographics are easier than you think with these free tools

Infographics are easier than you think with these free tools | Social Media | Scoop.it

...The only problem is, infographics that look like they were simple to make are often anything but. Creating something beautiful and instantly understandable in Photoshop is often beyond the limits that time allows. Which is why it's occasionally useful to use a quick and dirty infographics tool to speed up the process.

We've selected our favourites here. They're all free, or offer free versions. Let us know which ones you get on best with...

3 fresh CMS options that could be better than WordPress | Social Media | Scoop.it

Quick, name a CMS! Let me guess, you said WordPress. Maybe Joomla? ExpressionEngine? TextPattern? It doesn’t really matter. We all know the big names...

... If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s to pick the tool that’s right you, and for the job at hand. That’s why I keep looking at new tools, new options.

That is why, every so often, I’ll try out a new CMS, just for fun. Recently, I tried three which I thought were worthy of note. These CMS options are relatively new to the market, but they already show promise. In the right situation, they could be more appropriate than your old favorites. Let’s give them a whirl, see what they can do…

Twitter Video Ads Now Play With One Click

Twitter Video Ads Now Play With One Click | Social Media | Scoop.it
Twitter’s one-click video is now open to advertisers and brands, Adweek has discovered. Twitter confirmed that the more desirable video format has been expanded beyond Amplify media partners who started using such easy-play videos in March.
Naomi Assaraf's insight:

This Twitter video change is awesome, but the author of this article forgot one critical change when comparing to Vine videos on Twitter: Not only can you have longer vids, but there's *no need for a link*. For whatever reason, links turn people off. This can tremendously help increase engagement. I'll be watching excitedly!

What Would Happen If Google Really Did Kill Google+?

What Would Happen If Google Really Did Kill Google+? | Social Media | Scoop.it
Rumors are that Google might be planning to kill Google+ or at least put it into a Walking Dead-like “zombie” mode, as TechCrunch characterizes it — and something Google denies. There are some good reasons for Google to do this, and potentially, it could allow Google to better fight on the new social battlefield, […]

The same rumors probably started by the people who think Facebook is dead.

Stephen Dale's curator insight, May 1, 10:56 AM

I believe the accepted wisdom is not that Google+ is being killed off, but a desire to position it more as an integrated platform (e.g. embracing Android and desktop products) and less as a social network. I anticipate that we'll see a less aggressive push to have a Google+ account if you want to use any Google product (YouTube being the most insidious), and (hopefully) some decoupling of Gmail that would enable me to ensure my Google+ activity isn't a mashup of personal and business interests.

Influence: What Are Tools Like Klout Really Measuring?

Influence: What Are Tools Like Klout Really Measuring? | Social Media | Scoop.it

A very interesting comparison of several measurement tools and what they really measure. [note mg]

For marketers, PR professionals and customer service teams, personal influence measurement tools can save time and help facilitate business decisions. Tools such as Klout, PeerIndex, Kred and TweetLevel are being used by brands to rank the relative importance of customers and prospects, prioritize customer service responses, and identify groups of influencers to target with perks and product sampling promotions.

But what are these personal influence measurement tools really measuring? Are they really an effective way to understand which of your customers are more influential?

It is easy to understand influence as a concept; if you can get other people to do something, you have influence. But it’s not at all easy to define how you would measure influence. As Nathan Gilliatt has pointed out, there is no such thing as a “unit of influence” – an observable, measurable event that reflects influence.

Social reputation and social influence are becoming as important (if not more important) than your paper-based CV and your real-world network. But can they be empirically measured, and if so, what does your score actually mean? This article gives an overview of some of the products/services that purport to give you an influence score. Whether you take it seriously is entirely up to you!
