Miles Goodwin's insight:

3D printing is a process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model. 3D printing is achieved using an additive process, where successive layers of material are laid down in different shapes. 3D printing is also considered distinct from traditional machining techniques, which mostly rely on the removal of material by methods such as cutting or drilling  A 3D printer is a limited type of industrial robot that is capable of carrying out an additive process under computer control. While 3D printing technology has been around since the 1980s, it was not until the early 2010s that the printers became widely available commercially.

NBA investigating if Clippers owner Donald Sterling made racist comments

NBA investigating if Clippers owner Donald Sterling made racist comments | Social Media | Scoop.it
Man taped asking an associate
Miles Goodwin's insight:

In today's society even though there has been great change and great opportunity for minority people in this country comments like this are a reminder that there is still much more to go. Donald Sterling is the LA Clippers GM where there are mostly African Americans on the basketball team. Luckily, with social media and media in general being so prevalent these remarks were broadcasted. With players in the NBA being over 50% minority there is no room for these comments. I also feel bad for the players that they have to work for this man.

More Than 11 Million Young People Have Fled Facebook Since 2011 | TIME.com | Social Media | Scoop.it
According to one analyst estimate
Miles Goodwin's insight:

Since 2011 Facebook has faced what Myspace faced years before, the decline in teenage users. Facebook thrived in the late 2000's and early 2010's but more variety in social media sites such as twitter, instagram, and pintrest have resulted in facebook losing a lot of its fans.

The Rise in Tuition Is Slowing, But College Still Costs More - US News

The Rise in Tuition Is Slowing, But College Still Costs More - US News | Social Media | Scoop.it
Tuition prices aren't increasing as rapidly, but what students actually pay is still on the rise.
Miles Goodwin's insight:

Being a current URI student this is a situation I've come to know all to well.I believe that today's tuition costs are far to high. Especially in 2014 getting an education is vital. The bachelors degree is the new high school diploma some would say. I truly believe that schools nickle and dime students till the very of their college careers. Leaving many students in debt that will take them years to pay off. Here at URI you have to pay 250$ for parking and that pass doesn't ensure you that your car wont get towed. If your car gets towed you have to pay over 100 to get it out, as well as a 40$ parking ticket that comes with it. This is one of the many examples of how colleges try and make money.

20 Marketing Statistics | Social Media Today

20 Marketing Statistics | Social Media Today | Social Media | Scoop.it
One of the most discussed predictions for 2014 is the importance of creating highly personalized content across all different digital marketing platforms (i.e. website, blogs, social media, email marketing, etc.). In addition, a trend that I expect to continue to grow during 2014 is the importance of having an integrated marketing strategy.
Miles Goodwin's insight:

I was interested to see some of these stats. I knew that social media in today's marketing was critical but I wasn't aware of the numbers. The numbers that shocked me the most was 43% of all marketers found a customer via LinkedIn and 52% of all marketers have found a customer via Facebook.
