Based upon your goals, audience demographics, and types of content, some social networks might be better than others.

Also important to keep in mind is that you are more likely to see results if you personalize your content for the network you're using, as well as the audience that lives there.

It's no secret that images work. Twitter is taking that into consideration with the supposed next iteration of its design - which frankly has a lot of the elements of the Facebook profile, including the large banner.

I've always said that, eventually, all of the social networks will learn from the others what works and what doesn't, adapt and reuse all of the features, and just form one giant social empire. Maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't, but this is certainly another step in that direction. :)

Also, long live images! #leancontent

Rise Above the Content Marketing Noise

Aberdeen reports that 91% of B2B marketers use content marketing, but are they using it effectively?

Via Ally Greer

Ally Greer's curator insight, November 12, 2013 3:34 PM

The fact that there is such a concept of "rising above the noise" in content marketing proves that there is simply too much content out there. There are thousands of blog posts published every hour of every day on the same exact topc - so how is it that marketers are supposed to stand out?

The best advice is to "create quality, original content," but does anyone actually not try to create quality content when they're aiming for results? Probably not. The fact of the matter is, there is even more quality content out there than we ever could have expected - and this is where the curation door opens.

Instead of trying hopelessly to rise above the noise with all original content, why not be the one to organize it for your audience?

Interestingly a lot of these points are on the format of content that will be successful next year: short-form, visual and interest-based are the keywords you want to remember.

B2B Social Media Curation: Tips and Tricks

What is social media curation? Social media curation is: Gathering and repurposing content from sources outside of your business to improve and diversify your social media marketing.

Nicole Paquet's curator insight, February 20, 8:18 AM

Personally, I would highly recommend this article for anyone interested in social media. I found it to be extremely helpful with its suggested tips on how to properly curate articles and how to go about doing so in an ethical manner. I think that it is important for businesses to be looking into what else is going on in their industry aside from themselves and to be open to discuss those changes with their consumers. By posting other articles from creditable sources, companies have the brilliant opportunity to look more like experts in the field themselves even for just keeping up with current ideas and innovations. Aside from this, it also lets businesses provide their followers with their own take on what is going on in the world. For their customers, curating makes it much more exciting to follow businesses. When companies are not so focused on using social media to push products, they can instead use these forums to be able to express themselves as a “real people” with actual personalities. People who are interested in their business have a great chance of also being very intrigued by other topics or subject matter that is relatable or are in some ways similar. Something to take away from this is the idea that social media should not be used to push products and services on people but rather another median to be able to connect and interact with consumers. By doing so, businesses are able to gain a better insight on what it is their customers are actually looking for and what are some things that they may need to change. It may be time-consuming, but in the end I truly believe that social media is an extremely powerful tool to be used in order to enhance a business in a relatively low cost manner.
