A Detailed History Of Social Media - Infographic

A Detailed History Of Social Media - Infographic | Social Media | Scoop.it

Do you know the history of social media? Think we'll remember Facebook in 20 years? This detailed timeline is a must-see.

Social media began decades before the Facebook era. It started, more or less, with CompuServe and Arpanet back in 1969. A couple years later, the first-ever email was sent.

It has evolved over the past few decades into a powerful tool, as seen in this social media history timeline. With so much that’s happened over the past few decades, we can only guess what’s coming next for social media.

You know... I REALLY have a hard time feeling friendly toward Google.  Or YouTube, for that matter.  They're both arrogant as the day is long.  I mean, where else would any sane person do business with somebody where you couldn't even talk directly to a manger...let alone the 'owner'.

They get all pissy and and toss people off of their platforms with virtually zero recourse at all while at the same time giving the government any and all information they want while ALSO taking our information and using it either (a) for their own purposes and/or (b) against us.

That's good service?

I recall hearing that Google+ is changing into another animal now that the original founder has departed.  That's the way these guys do it.  They're digital 'pushers'.... get you hooked and then raise the price.

'The nuts and bolts that make up search engine optimization all hold the frame together, and that frame is content.

However, it’s much bigger than that.Without those nuts and bolts, such as inbound links, social signals, microformats, and citations, the content itself is nothing more than a pile sheet metal that can’t do anything.

As we continue to explore the ways that content can help with SEO, it’s important to note that even the infographic below by Fat is only one side of the content equation'.

Good insight from Iron Dane Richards. Easier to create a sure takeaway from Indigogo too since they will let campaigns increase the house take and walk away with something where Kickstarter is all or nothing. Either the campaign meets its goals or it gets nothing. 42% of the campaigns on Kickstarter meet their goals and most campaigns are funded at $10,000 or below.

Siri Anderson's curator insight, January 26, 2014 2:20 PM

I find it interesting to note parallels and contrasts between use of social networks in f2f environments and online environments.  In some instances the online version works better for those who flounder in person. In some cases people who love the real world interactions disparage the online ones. But for most of us, there seems to be a parallel in our patterns and style it would seem. Where should children "learn" how to do this, or is that lesson beside the point at this time?
