SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT IN 5 STEPS
Social media lives from engagement, from interactions with other people – from appreciating the others’ posts, liking or plussing them, commenting on and sharing them. Without that social media would not be social.
But we cannot expect from everyone to bring the same engagement to table – each person has own imaginations and ideas what works for him. And having a mix of people with different levels of engagement is certainly a good thing and attractive for good networking.
Problem is that many people don’t really know how to engage adequately and efficiently. They “swim in the social media pool” and try to experiment without being able to swim correctly. They test the water!
Before engaging in social media it is good to know some things:
Engagement Level 1 – Observing and getting an awareness
People are relatively unexperienced in social media – they rather observe than engage. They watch how people interact and try to get clear how everything works. They try to get an awareness what social media means, what engagement means and collect first impressions if they like it.
OBSERVING IS VERY IMPORTANT BEFORE GETTING ACTIVE!
ENGAGEMENT MUST COME FROM THE HEART – NEVER FEEL FORCED TO ENGAGE!
Engagement Level 2 – Gaining a foothold in social media
People have collected some experience and try to realize what suits best for them. They follow users they like, share content they like and engage with interesting people. They build enthusiasm and develop even joy in engagement.
CONCENTRATE NOW ON BUILDING VALUABLE RELATIONSHIPS!
Engagement Level 3 – Targeted engagement
People understand now very well how to engage. They have established some relationships with other users and trust in these relationships. Interactions are now targeted and straightforward. People engage more regularly than before.
NEVER EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM PEOPLE – BE CONSIDERATE!
ALWAYS BEAR IN MIND THE WELFARE OF OTHER PEOPLE!
Engagement Level 4 – Engagement as contribution to society
People here do not only aim on engagement, they now want to contribute – to people and to society. They want to make people happy, want to inspire and want to honour them. Relationships have become valuable!
LEARN TO GIVE UP THE OWN EGOISM AND SELF-CENTEREDNESS TO BECOME FULLY SUCCESSFUL!
Engagement Level 5 – Leadership as engagement
The highest level of engagement is developing leadership skills and opportunities, leading other people by good example and teaching them how to become leaders themselves. Leadership engagement aims fully on other people!
NEVER UNLEARN TO DEVELOP YOURSELF FURTHER!
LEARNING IS A LIFELONG PROCESS!
Now think about your own level of engagement and try to improve that!
Developing our engagement and leadership skills further is only of advantage!
