Fantastic piece on the changing face of marketing. Seasoned marketers are reluctant to let go of traditional push tactics (ah, nostalgia), but the social world can't escape "brand spam" fast enough. When it comes to social channels, marketing dollars spent on product promotion rather than developing quality content (a time consuming endeavor) is money wasted!

 

"Content marketing has become a huge buzzword in marketing lately as people have mastered the mechanics of social media channels but are finding that they aren’t seeing any results. Why? Because you cannot SPAM people on Twitter or Facebook and generate leads or new customers.

As the brave content marketing souls seek to build new content supply chains and content curation models, this is causing one very large problem for the marketing organization: our leaders are asking us to sell, sell, sell."

Google+'s network of 100 million users still has a long way to go to build up its community to rival Facebook's 800 million member base.

 

The infographic also highlights other interesting Google+ stats, including that nearly 70% of its users are male. Meanwhile, the top Google+ users on the site based on the number of followers is Britney Spears (2.67 million), Snoop Dogg (2.33 million), Google CEO Larry Page (2.24 million), Ashley Tisdale (2.04 million) and Hugh Jackman (1.96 million).
