The Ad Duo Who Gave Oreo An Unforgettable Social Media Twist To celebrate Oreo's 100th birthday last year, Jill Applebaum and Megan Sheehan, then creative directors at ad agency DraftFCB, released a witty, photoshopped image of the classic sandwich cookie on Facebook every day for 100 days. "Every day was a scramble," says Sheehan of the creative process behind the Daily Twist. The duo not only had to find a trend worth seizing upon, but they also had to find "ideas that would translate visually, as a cookie." The payoff: transforming Oreo into a clever real-time brand with personality, commenting on such cultural events as the Mars Rover landing and gay pride. Though the formal partnership has ended--Applebaum has moved on to JWT, while Sheehan is freelance--the impact on the billion-dollar brand has not: During the Super Bowl blackout, Oreo tweeted an on-the-fly ad with the line "You can still dunk in the dark."Slam dunk. I come across a lot of game systems and cartridges that don’t work simply because they are dirty or were not cared for properly, and as anyone who has ever blown into a cartridge to make it work, finicky cart-based games can be more frustration than they’re worth. To remedy this I’ll be going over some simple ways to get that old NES, SNES, or other cart-based game system (and its games) to help get a little more enjoyment from your favorite games from yesteryear.
My excuse is that I’m not ‘arty’. I studied the history of art at university, I like to look at art but the creative side I like to leave to those who have the talent. As an audience member, I am firmly placed in my role as spectator. And this is why the In-Finite project appealed to me so much. There are people who are being creative with social media (that don’t feature on the first page of search results) and in doing so, are bringing the audience into their projects. Ijad Dance Company have been interpreting technology since the 90s and now it’s the turn of social media. And by using these opportunities of communication – instant, one-off exchanges that take less than 140 characters (or 6 seconds with my new love – Vine) – offer an alternative to staring, faceless audiences. The In-Finite project asks people to donate secrets (how anathemic to social media!) in order that a dancer might interpret it, all amounting to a performance, streamed all over the world. Audience participation which isn’t threatening, a marriage of new technology and creative, responsive, accessible art.

"This article entitled ”Social Media Art in the expanded field” written by Ben Davis, discusses the relationship between traditional art and the social media, and the different forms of art or non art that comes from this bond between the two. Davis points out the importance of social media and how this took over any other initiative to promote artists and artistic creativity. Throughout the text, the author makes reference and gives explanation to numerous terms that come out from art and social media. Davis defines art a product which is brought forward by a creative process and a creative thought by the artist, which sets it aside from another ordinary, every day object. On the other hand he defines social media as a virtual world where everyone meets and talks and that it is also a platform for all kinds of advertisement." http://www.artnet.com/magazineus/reviews/davis/art-and-social-media8-4-10.asp
