Don't know if this falls within the category of "Social Media Art" per se, but this looks like a fun place to start if you are new to online graphic art. It is totally online royalty free public domain art. Share, upload, draw...and more. One of my favorite social media types of art are the little figurines that are multi-colored such as the ones shown above. I curate them and have quite a collection on my computer. I should upload them and share them with every one one of these days. When I first started out in social media several years ago, I had a dream about going into another dimension to meet my dopple ganger. (Yes, I really am a CRAZY dreamer LOL!) I was met by a bright pink figurine similar to that shown in the picture above and he/she put an arm around my shoulder to lead me in and introduce me to that dimension. Free Gimp tutorials. What could be better?

This is the nicest source for a Gimp tutorial that I have come across. For those of you who don't know, GIMP is an opensource (FREE) software to use in place of Photoshop. I've tried it and if you use Photoshop at work, you already understand the basic principles. This lady seems to have it mastered and I highly recommend this site's GIMP tutorials. Happy creating!

I come across a lot of game systems and cartridges that don’t work simply because they are dirty or were not cared for properly, and as anyone who has ever blown into a cartridge to make it work, finicky cart-based games can be more frustration than they’re worth. To remedy this I’ll be going over some simple ways to get that old NES, SNES, or other cart-based game system (and its games) to help get a little more enjoyment from your favorite games from yesteryear.

My excuse is that I’m not ‘arty’. I studied the history of art at university, I like to look at art but the creative side I like to leave to those who have the talent. As an audience member, I am firmly placed in my role as spectator. And this is why the In-Finite project appealed to me so much. There are people who are being creative with social media (that don’t feature on the first page of search results) and in doing so, are bringing the audience into their projects. Ijad Dance Company have been interpreting technology since the 90s and now it’s the turn of social media. And by using these opportunities of communication – instant, one-off exchanges that take less than 140 characters (or 6 seconds with my new love – Vine) – offer an alternative to staring, faceless audiences. The In-Finite project asks people to donate secrets (how anathemic to social media!) in order that a dancer might interpret it, all amounting to a performance, streamed all over the world. Audience participation which isn’t threatening, a marriage of new technology and creative, responsive, accessible art.

That's an interesting comment. I'm 59 and been laid off twice in the last three years - employers don't want to pay the higher insurance rates for us older gals nor do they want to pay us what we're worth. So, I am developing my blog to cater to people who are new to social media. I have over 45 years experience operating computers, have been online since it's inception and I want to give my knowledge to those who need it. It may surprise you to know that it isn't the baby boomers who lack the skills for online social and graphic skills. I've operated computers since 1973. I think the lack of computer knowledge, in terms of age groups, is more prevalent in my mother's generation. But, by golly, she is 82 years old, owns a iphone (grumbles about it a lot) and upgraded from a lap top to a tablet last winter. She's had a desktop in her office for 20 years. And, she's on Facebook (grumbles about that too :). And, we're from a small town in Eastern Oregon (yes, we have real life cowboys :) So, I guess the point I'm making is as long as people are willing, technology can be learned at any age. I know those folks too, Susan. I don't doubt that you are exactly right about the willingness, creativity, hard work, and tenacity of older folks using technology. But I suspect that plenty of late Boomers are finding themselves surprised by what they need to do to get a second look for an interview, and yes, disappointed that their worth is so severely undervalued. I have several friends, myself included, recently laid off and we've all been a bit taken by surprise to find that replacing our employment and our salaries is so difficult. I'm sure we will all be learning how to build and refine our social résumés. By the way, I love your post and your knowledge. You professional creds and tenacity remind me a great deal of a woman whom I know, admire, and cherish very much. Blessings, Anne.

My site is indeed down and as fate would have it, I am only just now getting it back online. I'm new to CPanel and WHM and I actually over wrote my own site with something else. I do have back up so all is not lost. I am so sorry to those who went there expecting to see something LOL! I think we've all had those "push the wrong button at the wrong time" moments. Mine just happen to be more over than others :) <3

Brandon Gaille uses a Yoast infographic in his blog post to demonstrate the amazing proven statistics about WordPress. Although this post uses statistics that are two years old, you can see the rising popularity of WordPress at that time - the interest has only risen since then.
Let's take a look at more current statistics:

Beginners can get a web site online in a few days. If you have a background as a web master, you can get a web site online in a day.
It's that easy.
Then, if you want to get more creative - you can get down to developing and designing something that is your own unique site unlike anyone elses.

Davis points out the importance of social media and how this took over any other initiative to promote artists and artistic creativity. Jeremy Amaira takes an intellectual approach towards defining and relating social media art and traditional art. He points out that the social media venues are a natural platform for advertising traditional art.
I find it interesting that he refers to social media art as "non art" yet accepts it as a unique art form. From my perspective, social media art on some levels is non-professional art. However, for myself, I have seen my graphic capabilities grow over the last four years just as I have seen many others do the same. Some people just buy other people's art and use it.
After 10 years of working online - the last four submersed in social media, the greatest joy I get from the online social media marketing world is being able to create a large part of my own graphic art. It's a creative outlet and I sometimes have to tear myself away from it to get back to the business of marketing through social media.
I am going to have a series of posts to bring my readers information on the many wonderful social media venues online that have forums and groups for learning more about graphic art, online art and social media art.
Social Media brings us a wonderful new world of cohesiveness, information, lost lost friends and family. One of the nicest pieces that social media has brought about is the new art form "Social Media Art".

I'm surprised to read in this article that Simon & Garfunkel albums ($100 - $200) are worth so much less than Bob Dylan which can be worth as much as $20,000! Back in the 60's I was far more interested in Simon & Garfunkel...maybe because I was a musician and appreciated artists who sang in tune. Not to say I don't appreciate Bob Dylan because he was an icon and lead a generation through a turbulent time, but I just never cared for his singing "style". I like his writing though.
