Facebook Offers Fun and Gorgeous App for Getting Your News

Facebook Offers Fun and Gorgeous App for Getting Your News | Social Media and Public Relations | Scoop.it
Facebook's new app is called Paper, and it is specifically designed to help you focus on the news and stories you are interested in seeing, from the friends and Pages and topics you want.

Eric Morana's insight:

Paper is already a game changer and it isn't even a week old yet. I highly recommend it for both consumers and creators of content. It will change how you look at visual content for FB and it helps organize the chaos that has become our news feeds from information overload.

Facebook's Paper App is Here

And what that means for You and Your Business

Did you catch the news? Along with celebrating their 10th birthday, Facebook has released a new stand-alone app called Paper. Paper seamlessly delivers the latest news and stories from your friends and the Pages that you like, while also offering you sections that you can customize to suit whatever topics you're interested in getting news on.

Tech, Politics, Sports, Life, Food and more.

You can learn all about the app and how to get started with it here: http://owl.li/tjiLd

But what does this mean from a business perspective? In an HOA last night, I pointed out that small business owners should absolutely be mindful of the fact that their updates and stories are now being viewed by some within this app.

And this could be awesome!

Paper does such a great job of displaying rich images and stories, businesses that take advantage of that could very well see increased amounts of engagement and activity.

That will largely depend of course on how many people actually download and use the app, so we'll know more in a few months when we'll have actual usage data. In the meantime, I'm encouraging business owners to continue to use more and more brilliant images in posts, and to share great information - solid advice regardless of what platform your followers are using. Specifics, like using taller images versus wider images, may come in time.

Learn more about how the new Paper app might impact your business and Facebook Page: http://owl.li/tjiLd

What do you think? Have you tried the new app yet?

#Facebook   #FacebookPaper  #FacebookPaperApp #SocialMedia #News  #Paper

Note: Paper is for iOS only. There is a link within the article to iTunes for the free download. The article will also be updated as additional versions are released.

Twitter opens its data to researchers and academics with new Data Grants initiative

Twitter opens its data to researchers and academics with new Data Grants initiative | Social Media and Public Relations | Scoop.it

Twitter has been busy opening its data up to media — through a deal with CNN and Dataminr — and the music industry — via an agreement with 300 Entertainment — and now it is focusing on helping researchers and academics.

The company has announced the Twitter Data Grants initiative which it says will “give a handful of research institutions access to our public and historical data”. Users send over half a billion tweets per day, so there is all kinds of information that researchers may want to dig into, from health predictions and information, to global weather, seasonal culture (like Chinese New Year), public opinion on issues, etc.

A simple way to optimize your content for Cross-Channel web Marketing | The SoLoMo Retail | Social Media and Public Relations | Scoop.it
Since the launch of its first version, on the 29th of June 2007, Apple implicitly pushed to a transformation of the way content must be managed on the web. Content is not anymore accessed by a person on one single computer. When Marketeers create their actions, they now have to communicate to consumers that will see the content on many different devices (smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop, watch, kindle, etc.). These devices have different screen sizes, some have a keyboard, other not and they are all connected to the web on different kind of networks. All these specifications will impact the experience users may have on their various devices.

RBC’s apology a classic piece of crisis management | Macleans

RBC’s apology a classic piece of crisis management | Macleans | Social Media and Public Relations | Scoop.it

It may have taken the Royal Bank of Canada a few days, but they finally decided to manage the crisis that’s rocked its image. Ever since it came to light that an outsourcing firm, iGate, hired 45 temporary foreign workers to replace Canadian employees at RBC, the bank’s been on the defensive. Reporters have dug into theprofitable relationship between iGate and RBC, and even Prime Minister Stephen Harper signalled his intent yesterday to reform the temporary foreign workers program.

This morning, RBC ran full-page ads in each national newspaper that apologized effusively for its mistakes, and pledging that all affected Canadian employees will find work elsewhere in the company. The disarming letter features all the hallmarks of classic crisis management: admit to an error, even if you followed the rules; explain that you meant no harm; emphasize that you’re listening to customers; apologize; and say it’ll never happen again. Finally, stand up for the good work your business has done since it opened its doors—oh, and thank all the good work your people do every day.

Jeff Domansky's curator insight, April 13, 2013 8:14 PM

After getting caught and a huge #PRFail, RBC does crisis management clean up. The comments speak loudly: Canadians, customers, shareholders hate the government's policy and the bank's actions.
