The Dangerous Media Seven-Second Stray | Mr. Media Training

The Dangerous Media Seven-Second Stray | Mr. Media Training | Social Media | Scoop.it

The seven-second stray can be deadly. It can damage your reputation and drown out everything else you’ve said.

... Years later, I developed a name to describe that phenomenon: “the seven-second stray.” I call it that because if a spokesperson is on message for 59 minutes 53 seconds of an hour-long interview but says something off message for just seven seconds, I can virtually guarantee that the reporter will select that seven-second answer to play over and over again.

The seven-second stray can be deadly. Not only is it often damaging to your reputation, but it drowns out everything else you’ve said, becoming the only quote the audience will remember from your interview....

Marketing has been too undisciplined - New Media and Marketing

Marketing has been too undisciplined - New Media and Marketing | Social Media | Scoop.it

Marketing can be downright self-indulgent.

If you want proof that most CMO’s are clueless look no further than the social media bubble.  The hype sucked in a lot of marketing dollars and only now are brands starting to really question the value of a “fan” or a “follower” on social media.

In the meantime a national retailer recently stated that, in the food channel, POP displays placed in aisles increased conversion by more than 50% and he wondered why more brands were not focusing in on purchase decisions which are often made in the store....

LinkedIn Faces Death by a Thousand Tiny Competitors | eWIRED

LinkedIn Faces Death by a Thousand Tiny Competitors | eWIRED | Social Media | Scoop.it

LinkedIn may be the worlds largest professional social network, but if it's not careful, it could face major competition from an increasing number of niche networking startups.

... “If enough of those sites get popular, and if LinkedIn does not do something to bring in those types of users, then they could be threatened one day from all of those users looking for resources that are better suited to their needs,” says Gartner analyst Brian Blau. He calls that phenomenon “death by 1,000 pin pricks.

”The fact is, bigger is not always better in the world of social networks. That’s no big secret in Silicon Valley today. Mark Zuckerberg is shelling out billions of dollars for small messaging apps like WhatsApp that are vying with Facebook for attention on phones and tablets across the globe, and he’s been all but shouting from the rooftops about how he is disassembling Facebook as we know it, transforming it from one big app that does everything, to many smaller apps that do just one thing.....

Tweet And Repeat: The Power Of Sharing And Sharing Again

Tweet And Repeat: The Power Of Sharing And Sharing Again | Social Media | Scoop.it

That’s right. “Rinse and repeat,” the familiar instructions on almost every bottle of shampoo sold in the U.S. since… well, probably since shampoo has been sold. Even though we suspect that instruction might be there just to sell more shampoo, most of us dutifully follow it.

But when it comes to sharing our content on social media, many marketers not only fail to rinse and repeat their shares, they may think they should not do that.
