What is Content Curation?

What is Content Curation? | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it
I selected this piece by Dino Joannides for Lingospot because it tackles a much asked and frequently tackled answered of "What is Curation?" in the most appropriate manner possible. That is to say, he answers the question with an excellent example of curation, complete with multiple links to articles that prove his points.

Some points that caught my attention:

**Content curation means different things to a variety of stakeholders, be they journalists, editors, bloggers, business executives or marketers.

**Fred Wilson the Venture Capitalist and blogger sees curation as an essential element in today's media landscape as indicated by one of his posts here

.

**Some argue that curation could actually save media.

**Others have argued that there is a new type of curation that is in effect the New Search.

**Most people inadvertently already act as curators whenever they decide to post a link or video to their social networks to show their friends they have found great or topical content.

He closes by suggesting traditional editors make decisions based only upon content that was produced internally, whereas the newer Curation mixes this with external content. The determination of what is given prominence remains the same.

The difference is that now, this role is undertaken by professional journalists, content marketers, bloggers" or in reality, anyone that publishes online".

What do you think?

Why curators should care about SOPA/PIPA

Why curators should care about SOPA/PIPA | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it

Churchill used to say: “In England, everything is permitted, except that which is forbidden. In Germany, everything is forbidden, except that which is permitted. In France, everything is permitted even that which is forbidden. In the USSR, everything is forbidden, even that which is permitted.”

DMCA is England; the Movie Industry thinks it’s France and wants us to be in Germany but this could end up in the USSR.

More on why this matters for curators on the Scoop.it blog. Join the debate and make your voice heard!

The Effect of Social Media ( Infographic )

The Effect of Social Media ( Infographic ) | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it

The following ===> infographic <=== covers the topic of social media and how it affects our content.

Would you imagine how social networking would be if there were no websites in the calibre of Stumble Upon, Twitter, Reddit, Digg, and Facebook ? I don't think we will have the same easy and instant access to the information as we do now.

We should be so thankful to those people behind the creation of such tools especially when we measure their importance and benefit in education.

Aggregation Is Not Curation - There Is A Big Difference - SVW

Aggregation Is Not Curation - There Is A Big Difference - SVW | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it

Curation is becoming an increasingly important term and for good reason: the online world is increasingly messy, muddled and full of blind alleys.

Search used to be the best way to navigate online but today it is only one part of an Internet user's dashboard.

Finding things is fine if you know what to look for, but search is increasingly less effective in judging the quality of links, or putting those links into a context.

So what is curation?

Curation is a person or persons, engaged in the act of choosing and presenting things related to a specific topic and context.

Why Klout is Dangerous | Business 2 Community

Why Klout is Dangerous | Business 2 Community | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it
I have posted two previous articles and one at SMM Magazine on the Klout menace.

Mark Schaefer has recently posted a number of warnings on his excellent blog, Grow. But I think the topic deserves another visit.

Mechanically measuring someone’s influence using an algorithm is going to be imprecise and quirky. Does anyone really believe that Justin Bieber is the most influential living being? or even the most influential online American?

I check my ratings on PeerIndex, Klout and TweetGrader and my rank on SMM marketing professors list, but don’t get distraught when I have slipped a point or another highly followed marketing professor has emerged. It is kind of fun to see how I and my online friends are rated and ranked.

Using Social Media: How Not to Burn Bridges in Your Social Media Campaigns

Using Social Media: How Not to Burn Bridges in Your Social Media Campaigns | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it
Blog post at GROWMAP.COM : This is a guest post by online marketer and writer Mitch O’Conner.

A social media campaign is a powerful way to promote your website or blog, reach out to an untapped user base, and ultimately make more money through direct sales and/or advertising dollars.

Handled incorrectly, a social media campaign can just as quickly alienate potential traffic, damage your brand’s image and have your advertising partners running for greener and more profitable pastures.
