The power of Twitter

How I became a convert to Twitter • The teaching and education community on Twitter is truly inspirational...

Twitter is a fantastic collaborative tool. As teachers, how often do we get to visit other schools? In my experience, very rarely. Twitter has enabled me to collaborate with teachers in schools across the country. Combine this with cloud services such as DropBox and Google Docs and you can create and share resources and ideas quickly and easily.

The site is also a great place for discussion. It is amazing how creative you can be in 140 characters. Teachers, academics, technologists and other experts come together on Twitter to chat and discuss a whole range of topics – you can follow and contribute to these discussions by using hash tags.

Check your Twitter account for rogue applications | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it
If you're careless about what applications you allow to access your Twitter account, don't be surprised if you find the bad guys are spamming tweets out in your name without your permission.

Here's just a small sample of the messages we saw earlier today, claiming to link to free iPhone 4 offers or tools to help you find out who had unfollowed your Twitter account.

Some of the messages posted from innocent users' Twitter accounts have claimed that it's easy to get your hands on a free iPhone 4:

Pinterest: Updated Terms of Service

Pinterest: Updated Terms of Service | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it

===> Pinterest changed their Terms. Please read... <===

Updated Terms of Service

Over the last few weeks, we've been working on an update to our Terms. When we first launched Pinterest, we used a standard set of Terms. We think that the updated Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy, and Privacy Policy are easier to understand and better reflect the direction our company is headed in the future. We'd encourage you to read these changes in their entirety, but we thought there were a few changes worth noting.

Our original Terms stated that by posting content to Pinterest you grant Pinterest the right for to sell your content. Selling content was never our intention and we removed this from our updated Terms.

We updated our Acceptable Use Policy and we will not allow pins that explicitly encourage self-harm or self-abuse.
We released simpler tools for anyone to report alleged copyright or trademark infringements.

Finally, we added language that will pave the way for new features such as a Pinterest API and Private Pinboards.

We think these changes are important and we encourage you to review the new documents here. These terms will go into effect for all users on April 6, 2012.

Like everything at Pinterest, these updates are a work in progress that we will continue to improve upon. We're working hard to make Pinterest the best place for you to find inspiration from people who share your interest. We've gotten a lot of help from our community as we've crafted these Terms.

Thanks!

Ben & the Pinterest Team

Why parents should educate their kids about tech

Why parents should educate their kids about tech | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it

"For parents trying to raise kids and give them the technology to be successful, yet also protect them, there's a sense that no one's there to tell folks what steps to take," said Marian Merritt, Internet safety advocate at Symantec.

But laying the responsibility for teaching digital citizenship solely at families' feet would be a mistake, Warren said. "It also has to be a part of ongoing education," she added, noting that kids as young as 2 now commonly use smartphones and other technological devices.

"I hope schools are distributing information and educating (families), ===> but ultimately, parents have a huge role to play (in the process)." <===

How To Use Twitter For Finding A Job | twitter how to | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it

Twitter has become one of the most, if not the most, common ways for people to keep in touch and share information. Just by making your usual tweets you can keep friends and family informed of your life and potential job providers aware of your situation. I know this may be a new concept for some, but you would be well informed to learn how to use Twitter for finding a job.

But, what do you do if you do not have a massively extended network of friends on Twitter?

Use an app like TwitJobSearch.

This will help you keep your job search information straight, find jobs openings posted on Twitter and actually apply for them directly! This handy little program will help you divide information into categories and save the jobs you are interested in.

Social media is about social science not technology - Brian Solis

Social media is about social science not technology - Brian Solis | Social Media and its influence | Scoop.it

A more sophisticated view of the customer is necessary to move beyond a static view of relationships.

It’s time to get informed and emotional about customers. Doing so opens the doors to new touchpoints that are emerging and those that have already surfaced.

Then and only then can we redefine online relationships to signify the way in which two or more people or organizations regard and behave toward each other.

Once you listen, not monitor, but truly listen to customer activity and observe online behavior, you cannot help but feel both empathy and harmony.

===> Empathy <=== is the secret ingredient in what I refer to as the ART of Engagement. It is the source of inspiring desired Actions, Reactions, and Transactions that means something to all those involved in commerce and relationship models.
