Successful entrepreneurs are able to convert a vision into reality, and they’re able to triumph over adversity. 2012 saw the rise of several such individuals who were able to leave a lasting mark in the online sphere. Paul Sciarra and Ben Silbermann launched Pinterest in 2010, and the photo-sharing networking tool surged in popularity in 2012. Despite a difficult start, Sciarra and Silbermann refused to accept defeat—they continued to improve Pinterest, and the rest is history... The minds behind Twitter, Turntable, and Rockmelt are also among the most successful online business pioneers of 2012. Do you use any of these social networking tools? The technical side of blogging can be very demanding, so the plugins really help. In addition to great content and SEO, I think you need an outreach/networking program.

I love that point Martin! I think people call it social because of the personal element to it as opposed to advertising and things like that, especially because it's so interactive in nature. Do you have a suggestion as to what to change the name to?

Last month I shared 40+ networks that you could consider depending on your niche or interests. As part of my commitment to this community, I shared that I will expand on this list througout 2012. So here is the first addition to that build! The topic- Curation!I thought I would focus on curation because a) I have a favorite site and b) there has been a lot of “press” on Pinterest as a curation tool and as a result I thought the timing was right. However before I list the sites lets talk curation.
What is social media curation?
Today, with the exponential growth of social networks and blogs, it can be overwhelming searching for information on the internet. As a result, the act of filtering, selecting, reviewing and providing commentary with a perspective on an article, or collection of articles, have become increasingly important. This is known as social media curation. Recently, I had posed the question : What is a social media curator” on Linkedin.

Thanks Everyone for this feedback. Just wonderful.
Robin- absolutely appreciated the feedback. I did visit all the sites to ensure that they were still in operation however missed some very important details. So thank you so much for providing the clarification needed. :))

Martin you need to do a little of what the article says - add your own perspective! I read the info and thought you had written it until I went to the link.

Hi Carey, I consider scoop.it as a tool to provide interesting information and not really as a curation tool, but, maybe you're right and I should reconsider my opinion about my approach! Thank you for your feedback.

Many face the challenge of getting visibility on Facebook in the newsfeed, especially for business pages. And, maybe that’s why I’m hearing more and more people talking about moving over to Google+. It’s estimated that only about 10% of the people who follow your Facebook page, actually see your content. So you’re left to spend an unreal amount of time posting pictures, videos, polls and links in the hope that your followers will see and engage with your content. Or, you can advertise your content with promoted posts and offers in an attempt to get attention in the newsfeed.
If you’re committed to marketing your business on Facebook (and with over 1 billion users, who isn’t?), the infographic below may help you choose how to engage for the best return on your investment of time. Via Lauren Moss

Two infographics provide data and tips to explain why brands must leverage visual social media in 2013 to stay relevant and grow.
Today, the marketing world is still hot on the social media marketing trail, but the trail has diverged. There are different paths with cheerleaders along the way no matter which path a marketer follows.
Ideally, marketers should find the path down the middle that marries all of the elements of social media marketing, but most are not there yet. Many of today’s marketers are still choosing a single path to focus on or jumping back and forth. For example, those paths include the data and metrics focus, the storytelling focus, the visual focus, and more. This article hones in on the visual focus with the help of two great infographics that visually share the data and tell the story of visual storytelling... Via Lauren Moss, michel verstrepen
