How might efforts to curate benefit from the portability and ubiquity of mobile devices? Tools like Evernote and GoodReads allow for easy and valuable curation. But the harder questions are pedagogical and curricular.

Toch weer jammer dat Microsoft Office's onderdeel OneNote niet genoemd wordt. Daar de office pakketten op vrijwel alle pc's van jongeren staan vormt dit een zeer goed (gratis) alternatief voor Evernote.

Very, very interesting and controlled !!

khodge55's curator insight, April 28, 2013 11:21 AM

Though I do not have a Twitter, I find this very interesting.  I think that if teachers did end up using this the kids who do have a twitter would get more involved in the assignment, but I'm not sure what they'd do with the kids like me would do during this lesson.  Overall,  I think this is a really cool and unique idea that could probably done with other social networking sites aswell.

Taking the long way around: circular routes to learning

Taking the long way around: circular routes to learning | Social media and education | Scoop.it

Organisations need to allow a certain amount of wandering around the corridors, through the accumulated knowledge, we need to mix things up a bit, create cross channel communities and be unafraid to cross boundaries. Creativity is a fire that needs fuel: relationships, knowledge, technologies, resources, we have to feed it to feel the heat.

We should welcome the curious, encourage adventure and introduce just a little uncertainty into the process of learning. You never know what it will turn up.

Can Twitter open up a new space for learning, teaching and thinking?

Can Twitter open up a new space for learning, teaching and thinking? | Social media and education | Scoop.it

Two academics discuss the pros and cons of using Twitter as a learning tool to encourage instinctive thinking in higher education

At the end of 2011, a few geeks in Sweden set up the Swedish Twitter University, which brought lectures in a series of tweets to a class of around 500 followers. It may have been the first time Twitter was used to deliver higher education, and given recent debate about massive open online courses (MOOCs), it seems apt that we reflect on what Twitter might do to transform the classroom and open up a new space for public education?

Critical Thinking Is Best Taught Outside the Classroom: Scientific American

Critical Thinking Is Best Taught Outside the Classroom: Scientific American | Social media and education | Scoop.it
Critical thinking is a teachable skill best taught outside the K–12 classroom

Informal learning environments tolerate failure better than schools. Perhaps many teachers have too little time to allow students to form and pursue their own questions and too much ground to cover in the curriculum and for standardized tests. But people must acquire this skill somewhere.

Our society depends on them being able to make critical decisions, about their own medical treatment, say, or what we must do about global energy needs and demands. For that, we have a robust informal learning system that eschews grades, takes all comers, and is available even on holidays and weekends.
