Beth Dichter's curator insight, January 31, 2013 10:18 PM

What would happen if education shifted away from the cohort system that is used to one based on competency? This report looks at this issue in depth. The page that is linked to includes a full report, an executive summary, a link to the infographic (of which part is shown here), and a link to download the infographic.

Perhaps the first question to ask is what is competency education?

"CompetencyWorks defines competency education as a system of education, often referred to as proficiency or mastery based, in which students advance upon mastery. Competencies include explicit, measurable, transferable learning objectives that empower students. Assessment is meaningful and serves as a positive learning experience for students. Students receive timely, differentiated support tailored to their individual learning needs. Learning outcomes include the application and creation of knowledge, along with the development of important skills and dispositions."

For a quick overview check out the infographic, which discusses:

* Why Competency?
* What's Wrong with the Current System?

* 10 Design Choices

* 10 New Capabilities of a Competency-Aligned System

How To Train Your Employees To Handle Social Media

How To Train Your Employees To Handle Social Media | social media and digital marketing | Scoop.it

An important step for a brand that has a social media strategy, and wants to avoid crises, is to ensure that employees understand how to use those tools.

This Infographic by Mindflash demonstrates that 76% of companies do not have a clearly defined social media policy.

Social media consultants can be an expensive addition to your business. But in this day and age, no company can operate without a sound social plan.

Your best social media team might actually be your current workforce. But how can you find your company’s natural social media rock stars and get your entire team on board with your goals?

The Infographic breaks down how your team members will likely react to the need for social media training. For example, some of your employees may already have popular social media channels in their personal lives, while others may be opposed to your business’ push online.

Keep in mind that your team probably represents a wide range of social media experience. This will help you know how to identify the different groups and understand how to best get them ready to implement your strategy.

Sara Rosett's curator insight, February 6, 2013 9:10 AM

"Amazon's idea is that users can sacrifice their right to access "the now-used digital content" and move it to another person's data store.

In some ways, the patent merely describes a digital locker, but one that permits trade and imposes scarcity on the digital goods in order to address questions around the "first sale" doctrine — a legal principle that limits the rights of copyright and trademark owners and allows protected material to be resold."

A simple infographic that helps students understand "the road to digital literacy". Designed by the Adams 12 Five Star Schools this infographic discusses digital citizenship, technology literacy and information literacy as the components of digital literacy.

* Information Literacy includes the ability to find, evaluate and use information

* Technology Literacy is the use of software and the multitude of online options available to create digital products

* Digital Citizenship is the ability to use technology appropriately and responsibly

Jessica Meher at Hubspot has put together a really valuable collection of 15 home page designs to look up to. While the selected designs may not represent your ideal taste or style, they all integrate some of the key critical elements for a home page to be successful. Namely:

a. States clearly what the site is about, what problems it offers, who does it talk to

b. Uses visuals, possibly representing the object/focus of our interest or some "humans" that are doing what we are interested into

c. Provides info bursts that detail what the site is about, what it offers and more.

Excellent choices. 8/10

Why Content Marketing is the New Branding | Copyblogger

Why Content Marketing is the New Branding | Copyblogger | social media and digital marketing | Scoop.it
What we call "brands" are just promises of an experience ... and content will help you shape that promise.

Zan:

I've been having more and more discussion lately about the idea of filmmakers AND films being brands, each in their own way. If brands are promises of an experience and content helps to shape that promise, then it's not a stretch to see how individual films are expressions of a filmmaker's brand. Or a way to experience the creativity, vision and artistry of a filmmaker.
