5 Social Media Trends to Look Out for in 2013

When you find something you want to view later, put it in Pocket.
Rebel Dekadance 's insight:

If you, like I, have been reading these 'predictions' about social media, advertising/marketing - you've probably read the same predictions, pretty much.  While it is necessary to look forward to 2013 and prepare for it, the changing of the year is irrelevant - We ALL know social media's impact on the world, so ofcourse brands/companies are goign to try to leverage these platforms - after all they have proven effective for so many brands.

"Big Data" I have been seeing this term, related to how we will soon become aware and understanding of how to capture, manage, analyze, and utilize this 'Big Data' - Yes this is VERY important to understand, but quit talking about it over and over and just get to it, SHOW us how this is happening, I'm sick of just hearing the talks.

All this, and other similar posts and articles are saying, is pretty much companies and brands will keep doing what works and forcus more of their efforts towards what is working...but that is just plain commen sense, no?

I love that point Martin! I think people call it social because of the personal element to it as opposed to advertising and things like that, especially because it's so interactive in nature. Do you have a suggestion as to what to change the name to?

Why marketers shouldn't forget Google+ - iMediaConnection.com

Why marketers shouldn't forget Google+ - iMediaConnection.com | Social Media: Advertising | Marketing | Scoop.it
Rebel Dekadance 's insight:

I love it! Although I have a Google+ account, I rarely use it, and definitely need to tweak it.  I especially enjoy how Google+ ranks posts based on content - this, I beleive, will force brands to generate/create content - actual good content and not those 'pamphlet look at my company' type posts.  After all, it should always be about generating, creating, and sharing engaging content that people will truly enjoy.

All these different social media platforms are equally important, but in their own respects.  It is important to understand what type of content you are creating and sharing goes to which social media platform - the LAST thing that should be done is take the same post and just blast it across all SM platforms, instead of taking that piece of great content that you have, and tailoring it for each specific SM platform and outlet.

Rebel Dekadance 's insight:

It's funny, while I share photos from Instagram to Flickr, and have that stream into my Tumblr - I don't really ever actually think about Flickr, like at all ever.  This is interesting though - but still I don't think it will prove to be much competition with other heavy weights that are already amired...but who knows
