Top Social Media Blunders of 2014 and What You Can Learn from Them

Top Social Media Blunders of 2014 and What You Can Learn from Them | social media-design-marketing-etc... | Scoop.it

The first half of 2014 is already in the books, and it looks like a lot of marketers and companies didn’t learn anything from last year about social media. Many brands still made a number of bad judgments and stumbled when it came to handling their social profiles, which led to backlash and a tarnished image for some.

Mistakes can happen anytime, and with half the year already over, now is a great time to discuss some of 2014’s biggest marketing and social media blunders so far. With five full months ahead, this should serve as a great lesson for all individuals, brands, and companies trying to market themselves to the public.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

-  It’s easy to post things on social media, especially on Facebook and Twitter. Remember, though, that backlash can come just as swiftly and easily. Sure, people make mistakes from time to time, but with all the previous instances, everyone should know by now how not to act in public, especially if you’re representing a brand known the world over....

As a kid, I loved getting free toys when my parents fueled up their cars. I'm sure that still holds true. But today, even kids are getting messages about the environment. So it's a shame for a company like Lego, which has a pretty decent environmental record, to partner with Shell Oil, which doesn't.

10 Things You Didn't Know You Agreed to via Terms of Service | social media-design-marketing-etc... | Scoop.it

We know you didn't read the terms of service. Here are the most interesting parts you missed. The terms of service, also known as the document you're supposed to read before signing up for a site or platform, is a treasure trove of legal guidelines, rules and permissions that few people really care about.

But there are a few things you're agreeing to, hidden within the jargon, that might change the way you use the web. Some permissions, like keeping personal information, protecting copyrights and preventing impersonation, are well-known and relatively innocuous. That said, there's a chance you're violating a term of service without even realizing it.

...OK, content marketing is popular. But why is it important for business owners and marketers?

In the last six years, the number of searches for various terms on Google alone doubled to 120 billion in 2012 from less than 60 billion in 2008.

Good look at Instagram tools Statigr.am, Postso, Repost, Justunfollow and Twtrland.

Angelina's curator insight, July 22, 2014 8:24 AM

Ian Cleary has noticed the growing trend of Instagram users and proposed 5 Instagram tools that help users to better manage their marketing.

(1) Statigr.am allows Instagram users to manage their account more effectively through providing several functions: view your own or friends' feeds (interact with multiple images in a short amount of time), view statistics of one's account, snapshots of popular photos, manage and promote account to new users and to join contests to gain more recognition

(2) Repost is a mobile app that allow users to browse through content from your feeds and repost the content to attract attention in the community. This app works best if your account intends to do a collaboration with other users (people will know who is the original creator of the content as attribution of the user is displayed by default)

(3) Postso allows users to share multiple images instantly on social media, which saves time for users to post images one by one. Users can schedule their images to be posted at a specific timing.

(4) Justunfollow allows users to manage their followers on Instagram, which helps them to build their communities and unfollow anyone that are spamming them

(5) Twtrland allows users to analyze their own and competitors' accounts on social media. This helps users to build their communities and know the methods of gaining more attention on Instagram through viewing competitors' networks, interests and photos posted.

With these tools, Instagram will continue to grow in the future and people will have multiple ways to gain recognition and popularity online.

Shirley Williams (appearoo.com/ShirleyWilliams)'s curator insight, November 16, 2014 2:20 PM
