“Well, we don’t use Authorship for ranking.”

That was the statement from Google's John Mueller during a Hangout last week when discussing Google's latest algorithm update, Hummingbird.

He goes on to say that Google tries to recognize the original source for content and wants to treat it accordingly. But what does that mean?

Guest author +Kapil Jekishan takes us through what, if any, conclusions can be gleaned from these comments and the most recent algorithm update. Most importantly, Kapil tries to answer the questions:

1. What direction is Authorship going?
2. What steps should bloggers and site owners take?

According to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, “The true cost of remaining anonymous, then, might be irrelevance.” Make sure that you're keeping abreast of these changes and developments!

If you have questions about Google Authorship, what are they? If I don't know the answer, we'll ping someone who does.
