Social Marketing and Social Change: Strategies and Tools For Improving Health, Well-Being, and the Environment- Craig Lefebvre

Social Marketing and Social Change: Strategies and Tools For Improving Health, Well-Being, and the Environment- Craig Lefebvre | Health promotion. Social marketing | Scoop.it

How can we facilitate more effective, efficient, equitable and sustainable solutions to the problems that confound our communities and world? Social marketing guru R. Craig LeFebvre weaves together multi-level theories of change, research and case studies to explain and illustrate the development of social marketing to address some of society’s most vexing problems. The result is a people-centered approach that relies on insight and empathy as much as on data for the inspiration, design and management of programs that strive for changes for good. This text is ideal for students and professionals in health, nonprofit, business, social services, and other areas.

The development of a cookbook as a nutrition promotion resource

The development of a cookbook as a nutrition promotion resource | Health promotion. Social marketing | Scoop.it
Dietary habits are at the centre of the obesity epidemic with lower socio-economic status communities typically having poorer diets, resulting in poorer health outcomes and chronic disease. As part of a comprehensive approach, there is a need for health and nutrition education resources to be better matched with the needs and interests of specific populations to improve resource efficacy. This study applied the concept of ‘usability’ to guide the development of a cookbook as a nutrition resource specifically tailored to the needs and requirements of women from the lower income community of Logan, Queensland.

Use of Health IT for Higher-Value Critical Care — NEJM

Use of Health IT for Higher-Value Critical Care — NEJM | Health promotion. Social marketing | Scoop.it
The patient had not yet coded but was spiraling downward, prompting a request for a bed in the intensive care unit (ICU). But the ICU had no available beds. Hours passed before the decision was made that another patient could safely be “bumped” out of the unit to accommodate our patient. After the transfer, in the empty room strewn with unused bottles, procedure kits, and hospital gowns, there was a moment of peaceful quiet but weariness. The team was exhausted from worrying that the patient would code before being transferred to the ICU, from running a makeshift ICU on a floor not equipped for it, and from knowing that other patients had been neglected in the interim.

6 Nonprofit Twitter #hashtags to follow

Marie Ennis-O'Connor's curator insight, February 11, 2013 10:22 AM

For those of you that are active on Twitter, following hashtags (#) can be a great source of information and an easy way to add your content to the conversation. You have access to a vast community on Twitter of smart, innovative, and engaging individuals looking to share what they know. Take a moment to get to know them and see how you can add your voice (and value) to the conversation. Here are 6 Twitter hashtags to follow:

1. #nonprofit – This is a pretty broad and fast paced tweet stream that gives tweeters a general understand of what is going on in today’s nonprofit world.

2. #fundraising – This hashtag includes anything from traditional, political, and online fundraising to social media fundraising best practices. This is also a great place for industry news and trends.

3. #nptech – This hashtag stands for “nonprofit technology”. From new online fundraising platforms, nonprofit social media, digital marketing, to microcredit loans, this hashtag helps bring together conversation around the way technology impacts how we give back.

4. #sm4np – This hashtag stands for “social media for nonprofits”. From new sites like Pinterest to optimizing Facebook posts, this hashtag helps leverage the wisdom of the crowds in regards to nonprofit social media.

5. #philanthropy – Though a little different from the previous hashtags, #philanthropy gives us a look at the other side of charity. From corporations to wealthy individuals to political enthusiasts, understanding where large, charitable contributions are going is a great way to review giving trends.

6. #donors – This hashtag is generally specific to donations. This means content surrounding the giving and receiving of donations. These are interesting perspectives that help give an individual a fuller perspective on the world of giving. Though we personally would like to see more fundraisers than donors, we can’t afford to overlook these important contributors.

Armed with all this information, see what wisdom you can leverage from, and contribute to, the nonprofit crowd.
