Online influence is a controversial subject. We've looked at it a few times but always urge for marketers to view the bigger picture. (@darrenwhitelaw what do you think of influencer scores like Klout Darren?

Joe Winpisinger's insight:

I think they are very relevant because people curation is replacing information curation.

Does Klout, or other reputation based platforms really make a difference for your business?

Darcy Kieran - Scuba Diving's comment, January 4, 10:44 AM
No difference for my business! And the influence measured on these tools might be totally unrelated to my target market. Who cares that I am influential with people around the world if I am trying to communicate to people around Montreal - for instance? I see these tools are 'games' just like 'Empire Avenue'... Maybe a tiny bit more than a game, but not much.
Pedro Barbosa's comment, January 4, 10:50 AM
Well, the algorithms are yet not divided by theme. For my trendseeking business it is very very relevant.

The scoring is yet not divided by theme, but if i could talk to all klout+65 in energy, that would be awesome, and had a lot of value.

Still, it has some value today already.

Marketers are all over big data - but are they looking to big data at the expense of true insights and missing the heartbeat of their customers?

Guillaume, we're watching curation evolve, exciting times ahead for sure!
William J. Ryan's curator insight, March 4, 8:35 AM

Same can be said for learning as well, we track a lot in LMS's but are we measuring what matters?  Have we defined, and agreed upon, the metrics that will help the business and the performance of the community we serve?
