Time To Reboot Your Brand? Here's How

Time To Reboot Your Brand? Here's How | Social-List | Scoop.it
What do Harvard University Press, Hooters, and the Miami Dolphins all have in common? Along with a lot of other companies, they all updated their branding in 2013. Brand updates are crucial to keeping your brand relevant to consumers. But what principles need to be kept in mind when doing one? How do you even know when you need one? How do you know if it's working and, most scary, how do you do it in a world where millions can criticize it on social media instantaneously? I did some thinking about how to address those questions and got input from some top-notch branding experts: Allen Adamson, managing director aof Landor and author of BrandSimple; Sarah Arnell, brand consultant and former CEO of The Arnell Group;Christian Haas, founding partner of Goodby Silverstein & Partners, New York; Erich Joachimsthaler, CEO of Vivaldi Partners Group; and Wally Krantz, worldwide creative director of The Brand Union. Their insights combined with my views have crystallized into the points below.

Understanding Goals, Strategy, Objectives And Tactics In The Age Of Social

Understanding Goals, Strategy, Objectives And Tactics In The Age Of Social | Social-List | Scoop.it
Learn about the "G'SOT" and why social media when used in marketing is nothing more than a tactic. There’s an old adage about the weather that’s gospel for mountaineers and meteorologists alike: There’s no such thing as good or bad weather. All we have is weather, and you have to be prepared for it — good and bad.Same goes for media and marketing. There’s no such thing as traditional or new media, just as there’s no such thing as traditional or social media marketing. All there is media and marketing, and both have always been and always will be in a constant state of tactical evolvement. In fact, when people talk or write about “social media marketing” being a discipline unto itself – one requiring a unique skills set and understanding to master – all they’re really talking about is the last item in what I like to call the G’SOT. And unless you understand the difference between Goals, Strategies, Objectives and Tactics (the G’SOT), you’re likely to dismiss anything else there is to say on the subject. So, for the uninitiated...

Journalism *is* curation: tips on curation tools and techniques

Journalism *is* curation: tips on curation tools and techniques | Social-List | Scoop.it
Curation is a relatively new term in journalism, but the practice is as old as journalism itself. Every act of journalism is an act of curation: think of how a news report or feature selects and combines elements from a range of sources (first hand sources, background facts, first or second hand colour). Not only that: every act of publishing is, too: selecting and combining different types of content to ensure a news or content ‘mix’. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos’ in his talk to employees at the Washington Post said: “People will buy a package … they will not pay for a story.” Previously that package was limited to what your staff produced, and wire copy. But as more content becomes digitised, it is possible to combine more content from a wider variety of sources in a range of media - and on any one of a number of platforms.Curation is nothing new – but it is becoming harder...
