Social Intelligence, the link between ... part II

Social Intelligence, the link between ... part II | Social Intelligence | Scoop.it

Last week I wrote about the Social media channels and how they are a hudge part of the customers buying behaviour of today.

There are three steps to take in how you can engadge with your customer and finaly analyse these results to get a 360view.

Step 1: LISTEN to the audience. Get to know them!

MONITOR CONVERSATIONS

Firstly, gathering social media intelligence requires
listening to what your customers are saying. Think beyond Facebook and Twitter,
and consider popular forums, blogs and even location-based network sites, like
Foursquare and Yelp. Also, consider monitoring conversations that relate to
your key competitors, as these conversations can be leveraged to see how your
company compares to them.

Next week I will tell you more about the next steps. Keep reading!

The Familiar New Challenge of Big Data

The Familiar New Challenge of Big Data | Social Intelligence | Scoop.it
Not too many years ago, I was challenged to hear this phrase from a very senior enterprise leader. "Being a good leader means being able to make smart decisions with very little information." It struck me as reckless cowboy bravado then.

Education 3.0 and the Pedagogy (Andragogy, Heutagogy) of Mobile Learning

Education 3.0 and the Pedagogy (Andragogy, Heutagogy) of Mobile Learning | Social Intelligence | Scoop.it

"The evolution of the web from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 and now to Web 3.0 can be used a metaphor of how education should also be evolving, as a movement based on the evolution from Education 1.0 to Education 3.0."

A useful summary table although I'd emphasise that the different 'versions' of education all have their place - v2.0 does not supercede v1.0
Elke Watson's comment, July 19, 2013 4:49 PM
Thank you. I'm not quite ready myself to do away with teaching professionals or brick and mortal education. I value learning in a group context. I found the second summary table more useful (pedagogy, andragogy, heutagogy)
Veronica Hoyos's curator insight, March 13, 9:22 PM

We could talk of the evolution from Education 2.0 to education 3.0 after carrying an evaluation on the impact of the Web 2.0 in education

Harvesting Twitter Can Provide A Crop Of Valuable Qualitative Data

Harvesting Twitter Can Provide A Crop Of Valuable Qualitative Data | Social Intelligence | Scoop.it

***** Twitter as research tool is often overlooked but always valuable. How cool is extracting sentiment analysis from past tweets on a subject:

"Many such tools are available in the R package (text mining). These allow patterns in the text to be identified, and codified so that they are amenable to statistical investigation. An important subset of these tools comprises methods of sentiment analysis – whereby numerical scores can be assigned to tweets as a means of evaluating the strength and direction of the writer’s reaction to certain key words. These methods of analysis commonly make use of lists of words with positive and negative connotations, and make use both of the presence of such words and their position within the structure of a sentence."

Cool artile and tools. Marty

Research: The View Of Social Business From The C-Suite

Research: The View Of Social Business From The C-Suite | Social Intelligence | Scoop.it

Research that shows how executives view the importance of social business within the organization.

Just yesterday, MIT Sloan in collaboration with Deloitte released a study, “Social Business: What Are Companies Really Doing?” that highlights the growing importance of social business initiatives. What I found most interesting was the view and perceptions from the C-Suite.

According to the research, C-level executives vary considerably in their perceptions about the value of social business to their organizations today. On average, and across all industries in the study, CEOs, presidents, managing directors, board members and CMOs are most likely to perceive social business as an important business initiative today. CEOs are twice as likely as CFOs and nearly twice as likely as CIOs to view social technologies as important right now. Below is the breakdown....

5 Common Business Intelligence (#BI) SEO Mistakes

5 Common Business Intelligence (#BI) SEO Mistakes | Social Intelligence | Scoop.it

Via Martin (Marty) Smith

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, July 4, 2013 6:27 AM

BI and SEO
Search Engine Optimization is wound like a golf ball. The tighter your wind the rubber bands of business intelligence the more valuable the data you draw from the well. It is EASY to make business intelligence mistakes. Here are several common BI mistakes.

Top 5 BI SEO Mistakes
1. Poor tagging.
2. No A/B Testing.
3. No "Read The Cookie" Fire The Site.

4. No or poorly located email subscription.

5. No Social Media Reports or only GA.

Tagging is both art and science. How you "tag" or identify pages or pieces of your template make a dramatic impact on your ability to report critical data such as how many clicks a Call-To-Action (CTA) receives, the importance of a link or graphic and what your visitors care about and could care less about.

When YOU create a web page MOST of what you think will be important won't resonate. I've conducted hundreds of studies of links on web pages and a tiny % get all the traffic (sometimes as high as 10% of the links command 90% of the clicks).

This is why #2 is so important. You MUST, MUST, MUST test. There is no excuse to test these days. Even if your IT team can't split traffic for you there are services that will help (Optimizely is my favorite https://www.optimizely.com/).

#3 "Read the Cookie, Fire The Site" creates a relevant website based on data your programmers can pluck from a visitor's "cookie". A cookie is an identifiable piece of code that informs where a visitor's computer is located (GPS-like), where they came from such as Google and whether they are NEW or a return visitor.

Relevance is SO important every website should read the cookie and fire relevant information into a zone on their website. Read the cookie fire the site isn't technically complicated, but few web design teams think about it because it is a marketing or BI function to think about engagement and relevance.

The highest converting websites understand their site is NOT an end unto itself but a MEANS to an end. One of those important ends is to have the ability to communicate directly with your customers without paying Google or anyone else. Email marketing subscriptions is one of the most important and often overlooked functions of any website. Don't overlook where you place email subscription forms EVER. Above the fold and high contrast. Also make sure to note, "Privacy protected".

Finally Google Analytics under reports Social Media Marketing by 30%, so you must have another way to understand your conversion funnels. Without a tool like Coremetrics or Topsy you will undervalue Social Media and make poor BI decisions.
