These are five great ways to get students to use technology wisely and allow them to create a portfolio for themselves.

1- Weebly

This is a platform similar to Google Sites where you can easily build a classroom website for free. You can also use it to create your portfolio. Use the pages section to host it . You can embed in it images, videos, texts, graphs, infographics ...and many more.

2- Portfolio Gen

Portfoliogen is a FREE online service for teachers to create their own customized portfolio webpage. Registered users receive their own URL web address allowing them to share their credentials with prospective employers, principals, professors and peers.

3- Dropr

Dropr allows you to create and browse beautiful portfolios from music to art, photography to print and connects you to the worlds most creative community.

4- Pathbrite

This is an awesome tool that allows users to create academic portfolios. These portfolios can contain data stored on your computer, materials imported from social media networks...and many more.

5- Google Sites

Google Sites is another great platform for creating and hosting your digital portfolios. Check out this guide to learn more about it.

Nancy White's curator insight, May 13, 9:12 AM

I am very excited to find this work to share with my teachers. I continue to get pushback as I try to encourage them to allow time for students to curate.  The fact of the matter is that true curation takes time, but the skills gained by students cannot be ignored, and research and critical analysis are found throughout the Common Core Standards. Curation is also a pathway to personalized learning as students pursue their own areas of interest through the art of curation.

Great to see this analysis of role/importance of curation as literacy

Great to have a little evidence to add to the discussion about curation as a tool. I'm a fan of online curation and think that it strengthens teacher's understandings and develops connections with the wider learning community.

New Content Curation Tool: Learnist Is Pinterest For Learning

New Content Curation Tool: Learnist Is Pinterest For Learning | Social Computing in School | Scoop.it

Giuseppe Mauriello: Learnist is a new site (still in beta) that aims to be like Pinterest but for sharing learning resources.

On Learnist you can create pinboards of materials organized around a topic.

You can pin images, videos, and text to your boards by using the Leanist bookmarklet, by manually entering the URL of a resource, or by uploading materials to your boards.

From article by Mashable:

"Grockit's latest product re-configures online content such as YouTube videos, Wikipedia entries and ebooks into ordered lesson plans.

Unlike Pinterest, however, creators suggest a path in which to consume each content component. Users can check off each component as they go or “re-add” it to one of their own learnings.

Grockit founder Farbood Nivi argues that expert curation helps avoid the misinformation, hacked-together how-to articles and other useless content one must weed through in a typical Google search. It also provides a clear learning path and eventually, he hopes, will include some form of assessment..."

Simon Penson, founder of Zazzle Media, has a fascinating article on the future of SEO, that I have been wanting to highlight for some time. He argues and provides good supporting reference to the idea that Google is moving away from primarily leveraging links and anchor text to evaluate web site relevance to the use of semantic analysis of text co-occrunces to determine it.

He writes: "Imagine being able to outreach awesome content without having to look for links.

Simply make people aware of what you are doing and get them to talk about you.

It’s how it should be and it would have a profound effect on the type of content you might produce and brand-marketing activity you might pursue."

The article is rich in valuable references and tools for anyone interested in exploring this topic.

Game changing. Resourceful. 8/10

Justin Bruce's curator insight, February 25, 8:05 PM

From an SEO perspective, google is updating all teh time and reliance on linkbuilding is dangerous as we have just seen with a key client.

Google still recommend a link building stratgy but suggest you diversify into PR and social media to build page rank. That means you need to create great content and promote it.

From a conversion perspective, great contnet is not enough, it must also be relevant. Look through your email subject matter from your customers over the past year and match this with search queries in analytics (not keywords but actual terms they used to find you) and there's your relevant topic and inspiration. Now you gotta do it daily.

Don't forget contributing to other publishers (especially popular and high authority sites) also constitues as content. Curation is fine if relevant (check out scoop.it) but creation is always best, it takes time so allocate time!

How To Capture Ideas at Presentations and Events by Doing Visual Recording on the iPad

Robin Good: Rachel Smith explains in very simple words how you can use your iPad to capture and record visually the key ideas and concepts presented during a lecture, keynote, training class or presentation.

She provides a good round-up of four relevant tools that can be used for this task, analyzing their key pros and cons as well as providing logistic and technical advice on how to best organize and setup yourself for doing visual recording on the iPad.

As similar tools will provide more ready-made icons, templates and patterns available for this kind of real-time idea-capturing, this rare and pioneering visual recording work will begin to catch up even more rapidly.

The “Know, Like, and Trust” Factors that Help You Grow a Real Audience

The “Know, Like, and Trust” Factors that Help You Grow a Real Audience | Social Computing in School | Scoop.it

Excerpted from the original article on Copyblogger:

"Your content is good. You know your material. You know how to put words together in a way people want to read.

No matter how strong a writer you are, you won’t grow the vibrant audience that supports your business until you fit one more piece into place.

The reality is, your audience won’t pick up real momentum until you’ve mastered the “know, like, trust” factor.

- 10 ways to get known online:
You know that high-quality content marketing attracts attention and builds your reputation — it lets people see who you are and why you’re worth listening to.

Your audience grows in proportion to the quality of content that you create and deliver.

How do you “become known?”
1. Get clear on who you’re talking to...
2. Assert expertise in your niche...
3. Create the right content...

- 10 actions to build likeability online:
A high profile alone is not enough to convert prospects into customers. You must also build relationships to nurture your likeability.
Here are ten ways to become better-liked online.
11. Be authentic...
12. Be real...
..
15. Be relevant...

- 10 factors that build trust with your audience:
While you’re delivering your truly valuable content, you’re not selling, but you are paving the road to eventually selling a product that’s related to your content down the line. When it comes to selling online, authority and likeability alone are rarely enough — you need to become truly trusted.

Here’s ten ways to gain trust online.
21. Give away (some of) your best stuff...
22. Don’t disappoint...
23. Be consistently good...
