50 shades: The exact foundation formula worn by your fave celebs

50 shades: The exact foundation formula worn by your fave celebs | Cultural Trendz | Scoop.it

Not too long ago, with only a limited range of foundations in distribution, you’d be hard-pressed to find your perfect match. These days, the industry is constantly churning out new formulas and technologies to seamlessly match various skin tones and types, with some even claiming to adjust to your skin for a tailor-made shade (read: no streaks or mask-like appearance). We’ve compiled 50 of the exact shades worn by celebrities, including those we’ve championed for years, great drugstore buys, and innovative launches that are setting trends in the beauty world. Most importantly, all of the foundations featured are those we feel make skin appear more luminous, healthy, and simply  flawless.

Secrets to gorgeous, glowing skin

Secrets to gorgeous, glowing skin | Cultural Trendz | Scoop.it

Get a Chanel makeup artist's expert techniques to help you glow like the best of them.

Step 1: Start With a Dewy Base

“I never start working on the skin unless it’s well hydrated. In the summer, there’s a little bit of moisture in the air already, so you don’t need a heavy cream. I personally love Chanel Hydra Beauty Serum because it soaks into the skin with no reside. Then I apply a primer, since it will help maintain the freshness of your makeup.”

Chanel Hydra Beauty Sérum, $97.50, chanel.com.

Step 2: Dot or Brush on Foundation

“In the summer, it’s all about not applying too much foundation. Instead of covering your entire face, just do four dots, placing one in the center of your forehead, each cheek and bottom of your chin. Then rub in with your hands, or if you want to be fancy like me, use a foundation brush. This allows me to get into the tiny corners of the face, around the sides of the nose and eyelids. A brush spreads your foundation evenly, so it mimics the way your skin looks naturally.”

Step 3: Dust on Powder—Yes, Really

“Next I do a little creamy cheek blush, applied exactly where you would blush naturally. If you don’t know this, just pinch your cheeks and that will indicate where the blush should go. Now comes the big surprise: you should powder your face before applying bronzer. But I don’t use a powder that has a lot of shine; instead, I’ll go with a matte, translucent option because the bronzer you’ll be applying later will mostly likely already have some shine to it. Powder also seals your foundation and allows the skin to feel velvety, which is what we love about Jen [Aniston]’s skin.”

Step 4: Sculpt With Shadows

“Another surprise: I use two eyeshadows to define and highlight the face. I was looking for a shading color in my kit one day and couldn’t find the right one. This Chanel Duo in Taupe-Delicat was on my makeup station, and now I’m in love with it. I take the taupe shadow and with a brush just sweep it under the cheekbones, on the sides of the nose and under the jawbone to sharpen the face. Then I take the lighter shadow and dab it on the inner and outer corners of the eyes with my index finger. This adds a little glow to open up the eye area. I also dot the center of the cheeks to the make the apples look plump and then above the arch of the eyebrows to lift the eyes.”

Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo Eyeshadow Duo in Taupe-Delicat, $42, chanel.com.

Step 5: Go For the Right Bronze

“Then I take my Chanel Bronzer, which is not too dry or matte but has just enough shine. On Jennifer, I use Desert Corail or Terre Ambre depending on where she is with her skintone. I just go over the face with a big brush, boom-boom-boom over the t-zone and blend outward. Always do your neck and décolletage as well, because your whole look has to blend in. I finish with a powder blush that’s a little transparent so your skin comes through. Makeup is an illusion but you don’t want people to know this is not the real you, of course!”

Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder, $50, and Joues Contraste Powder Blush, $43, chanel.com.

Vilma Bonilla's insight:

Love Chanel products, especially the Hydra Beauty gel cream and serum. There are other hydrating creams that work well too but these are my faves. The only thing not mentioned in this post is to start with clean, exfoliated skin.

Expert advice on of-the-moment beauty trends.

Sexy Untamed Waves
As seen on: Catherine Zeta-Jones

How-to: You can't help but admire how Catherine Zeta-Jones pulls off waves in this humid weather. It's a chic example of letting the elements work in your favor. To follow her lead, we suggest only blowing out your roots for a sleek finish, allowing the lower half of your hair to be a bit wild. Just mist on a frizz-controlling spray—a leave-in is brilliant because you can do touch-ups on the go—and let your waves air-dry. Humidity be damned.

Editor's pick: Redken Curvaceous Wind Up Reactivating Spray, $18, ulta.com.

Beachy Hair
As seen on: Blake Lively

How-to: Beachy hair just looks incredibly cool and sexy—there’s no denying the impact of the effect on stunners like Blake Lively. The style is also super low maintenance, which adds to the appeal on lazy days. All you need is one really amazing styling spray. We’re all about Oribe’s new Thick Dry Finishing Spray. Mist it on dry hair and also the tips of your fingers then massage the roots to get amazing volume and salty-air texture. Another bonus: this formula has built-in UV protection and won’t weigh down fine hair. Consider if the next best thing to hanging out by the shore.

Editor's pick: Oribe Thick Dry Finishing Spray, $37, oribe.com.
