The wolves of the web

The wolves of the web | Business Transformation |

THE barons of high-tech like to think of themselves as very different creatures from the barons of Wall Street. They create cool devices that let us carry the world in our pockets. They wear hoodies, not suits. And they owe their success to their native genius rather than to social connections—they are “the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in square holes”, in Steve Jobs’s famous formulation.

Karl Wabst's insight:

The goals of high tech have been to transform the world. That's happened. Now technologists need to transform themselves.Techies must step up. Drop the social misfit cloak and recognize their role as Wolves.

We may think we live in a digital world, like Tron, but that 6 figure + income comes with real responsibilities.

Anyone in a successful technology firm that rewards employees with massages, dry cleaning services and free cappuccino needs to recognize their effects on their environment.

We may wear hoodies but we haven't avoided the trap of becoming our parents. Don't fret. The hippies of the 1960's have ascended to CEO.

When folks earning an average wage look at us they don't see rebels fighting the establishment. We've already become corporate America. Get over it.
