And, it's important to own your own audience and own your own material. You can't do that if you depend on publisher websites.

It's not unusual for authors to be told by their publishers that author websites aren't necessary or effective. Should their insight be trusted?

The takeaway from Jane's article seems to be that there are healthy (good marketing) ways for authors to build and online platform with a website as hub....and some mistakes to avoid. She also thinks publishers should take the time to educate authors. Does your publisher help you establish a marketing platform and plan?
