Meet the lawyer taking on Uber and the rest of the on-demand economy | @BadasseBs | Scoop.it
if Uber’s drivers were reclassified as normal W-2 employees, rather than 1099 independent contractors, Uber would be required to pay payroll taxes for them, and provide them with benefits like workers’ compensation insurance and unemployment. In some states, such as California, Uber would also be required to reimburse drivers for the costs of the job, including gas, wear-and-tear on their cars, and car insurance. If Uber had indeed misclassified its drivers, the company’s entire business model was built on a legal mistake.

However, tapping into the power of a digital community requires shedding some of the work habits of a traditional reporter. Today’s journalists can’t just gather facts and quotes and dispense them to the public; they must actively seek out their audience and create opportunities for interaction. “If you don’t hear from your readers, the tendency is to have a very insular notion of your beat,” Gilgoff said. “If you open it up, there are a zillion angles that wouldn’t have otherwise” come to light.

New Forrester Research: Brands Are Wasting Time And Money On Social Media | @BadasseBs | Scoop.it

Karen Dietz's curator insight, November 24, 2014 11:25 AM

The research shared in this article is quite surprising.  The latest data shared from Forrester Research shows that top brands posting on Facebook and Twitter reach only about 2% of their audience. Engagement stats are even worse  -- a mere 0.07% of followers actually interact with posts.

Yikes!

And what does this have to do with business storytelling? Well, one thing it might be pointing to is that if you want to share and gather stories from audiences, social media might be the wrong place. Forrester concludes that the best way to engage  customers and prospects is through email.

We already know that blog posts, email and email newsletters allow for better storytelling  and are still very popular. You have more space, and can craft better stories. Social media posts are more like conversations, where stories may or may not show up. But  as we know, stories create higher engagement if you tap into the dynamic of story sharing (that means equal activity on both story listening and storytelling).

As we get more sophisticated in business storytelling, part of that maturity may be learning the best mediums for storytelling instead of thinking that every medium will work.

The recommendation about email makes sense to me. So you might want to read this article, understand a bit more about the research and recommendations, and go make adjustments accordingly.

What do you think about what this research says, and what will you be doing differently? Inquiring minds want to know ...

It’s almost 2015 - Isn't it time you got a grasp of this technology thing #digitalstrategy vs #website -  I explore technology in  digital strategy for those who do more than  write about technology. trust me there is a huge difference.  however  if you are doing ANYTHING digitally  you need a central  hub to call  your own! i am working with a young independent designer. Not only does she have to figure out  how best  to use social media, she also has to build her skills, design a line that her  consumers would love as well as find discover and court those customers. That is outside her  responsibilities of  paying off college debt and living  expenses. She could not wrap her mind around what i call a zero start program. You need money to make money.  after about a year she finally gave the option a chance... and while at first she was daunted by the technology... she was able to pull together a solution she is comfortable putting her name behind as she builds.it set me thinking of how many in my social circle do  not have a website... and no I do NOT recommend wix or weebly... few can truly  figure their way around what appears to be "easy" solutions.
