The Past & Future of Infographics

The Past & Future of Infographics | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

It could be argued that early caveman actually invented infographics.

It wasn’t until 1626, however, that infographics were published in the book Rosa Ursina Sive Sol by Christoph Scheiner. His illustrations clearly and concisely demonstrated the rotation patterns of the Sun. After that, infographics appeared regularly in a variety of other publications.

In the 1970’s, The Sunday Times, an award-winning British newspaper, began using infographics to make the news more interesting. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, other newspapers began following suit.

By the turn of the 21st century, new technologies emerged that enabled a host of companies to create infographics quickly and easily. Infographics slowly began making their way onto websites, in magazines, products and games...

Google Glass : seulement 30 minutes de batterie en pleine utilisation ?

Google Glass : seulement 30 minutes de batterie en pleine utilisation ? | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Mike Ellsworth's curator insight, April 24, 2013 10:54 AM

A member of the Forbes 50 list explains the dicey methodology used to create the list and nominates 25 people who were left of this year's version who are more deserving. I would agree completely except for one thing: many of these social media luminaries have followers in the thousands, but only follow a few hundred. In the case of Seth Godin, he follows nobody.

Social media is about relationships, not numbers, but if you're not willing to even follow me back, what does that say about the way you use social media?

A Road To Success Using Social Media | AllTwitter | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Did you know that 95 percent of businesses throughout the world use social media as a networking tool, and that fifty percent of these companies have noticed a significant improvement in their visibility, website traffic and sales, accordingly? Used correctly, social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn allow brands of all shapes and sizes across almost every industry worldwide to attract and engage with customers (old and new), convert enquiries into strong leads and deliver first-class customer support and service. It takes work, and it takes time, but the road is there for everyone. You just have to take those first steps – and then keep putting one foot in front of the other. This infographic takes a closer look at some key social media facts, figures and statistics....

The Future Of Social Media Is Not What We Think

We use social media now as children use a hammer. Sometimes we hit a nail's head, but mostly we inflict damage on ourselves and those around us. As we grow up with social media marketing we will see that its secret is the connections it brings and the way it changes US.

I wrote about social media's "most important ROI" (http://www.atlanticbt.com/blog/social-media-marketing-the-most-valuable-roi/ ) and would add to that view how social media changes the enterprise. A "social business" operates differently.

Social Businesses
* More Open.

* Listen More Than You Talk.

* Responsive, able to change based on feedback.

* Environment rewards, encourages and asks for feedback.

* Many ways to provide feedback.

* Feedback is actively curated into and feedback out of company.

* Feedback scales (grows faster and faster).

* There are KPIs for feedback.

Social businesses measure, trend and respond to social stats. They develop meaningful KPIs for their social business and never simply plug and play. They are always present and accounted for.

Jeff Domansky's comment, April 27, 2013 3:52 PM
Marty, thanks for your comments and wonderful insight as always. I totally agree. Always, always start with strategy.

"12 Hours of Separation" Connect Individuals on Social Networks

Mike Ellsworth's curator insight, April 24, 2013 6:24 PM

Six degrees of separation no longer brings home the Bacon quickly enough. We're all just 12 hours from being found by network searches by random people, according to a recent competition.

Alex Rutherford at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi and a few pals have measured how quickly it is possible to track down random individuals around the world using a competition called the Tag Challenge, in which the goal was to find five individuals in five different cities in North America and Europe. The only clue was a mug shot of the individual, the name of the city he or she was in, and the fact that he or she would be wearing a T-shirt with the logo of the event.

Three of the five were found in 12 hours. Wow.
