Mobile Is About Enablement, Not Transactions | Mediapost

Mobile Is About Enablement, Not Transactions | Mediapost | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Smartphones are ubiquitous. They are owned by more than 50% of consumers who, according to comScore, spend on average one-third of their time online on their smartphones. It comes as no surprise that marketers are asking when the booming popularity of mobile technology will translate into increased online sales via mobile channels for their brand.

But it’s the wrong question.

A better question to ask is how can the mobile platform be leveraged to empower shoppers to better interact with my brand, online or offline? The sales will come, be it through mobile, .com, or brick-and-mortar, but a focus on ROI pales in comparison to the long-term ROE (Return on Engagement) that mobile can deliver.

If you've ever gotten shamed for taking iPhone photos of your meals, you now have a legitimate reason to take a snap of your food: it could be a small step toward alleviating world hunger.

That's because if you take a photo of your food with the Give Your Calories app (free for iOS), the app converts the caloric value of a food item into dollar values that can be donated to international humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger.

Action Against Hunger's field professionals work to help severely undernourished children around the world.

This Give Your Calories app uses image recognition technology to figure out what you're eating in the photo or you can scan a food product's barcode. Once it does the calorie calculations, you can donate money via PayPal.

Swedish Radio's social media handbook

Swedish Radio's social media handbook | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Swedish Radio has identified 12 editorial priorities. The first of them, which is about using social media and interactivity, reads:

"Develop Journalism 3.0 and the relationship with the audiences. Social media is here to help us strengthen our audience relationship."

There are two main reasons for us to participate in social media. The first reason is purely selfish: we want our content to be shared and spread as much as possible.

It focuses on four main areas:

Preparations - how we start a social media activity, how we set up goals and measure successResearch - how to use social media for basic research and more advanced crowdsourcing projectsSharing - how we make people want to share our content to the widest extent possibleDialogue - perhaps the most important as it is about the way we nurture an on-going conversation with our audience and visitors, which is the foundation on which all our social media activities rest.

Included in the handbook are "do's and don'ts" for both reporters and managers, in a format which is easily accessible in their day-to-day work. You can downloaded it for free here.

A Century of Marketing Media and Measurement: The Evolution of the 'Growth Hacker' [Infographic]

A Century of Marketing Media and Measurement: The Evolution of the 'Growth Hacker' [Infographic] | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

To demonstrate how marketers have adapted to media innovations through the  last century and created measurements for them, IfbyPhone created the following infographic about the  evolution of the "growth hacker" from the 1920s to today.

"Growth-hacking refers to the use of marketing strategies backed by data to generate growth," says Irv Shapiro of IfbyPhone.

One example of growth-hacking shown in the infographic comes from the 1920s  and 1930s. As radio emerged and grew in popularity so did paid radio ads. The  first paid ad went on air in August 1922, and Arthur Nielsen, an American market  analyst, developed the Nielsen Radio Ratings to analyze the radio market and  radio programming.

| Social and digital network | Scoop.it
