Shomaging Artforum Magazine
Yesterday in what may be the first instance of "showmaging" I sat in Barnes and Noble and took pictures of articles in Artform Magazine. I love Artforum and used to buy it regularly, but I can't imagine such passive consumption now.

Now I want to be involved and if content isn't on my pad or laptop it doesn't exist. Yes I prefer books, but books are a bigger commitment. I will miss the oversized glossy presentation of Artforum, but I just can't be so quiet in my consumption of a timely piece of content such as a monthly magazine about art.

Here are tips I shared that could help print publishers survive the mobile revolution, and make no mistake the world of woe print publishers are in comes from those very SMART PHONES we carry:

* Put QR codes on your pages.

* Create platforms where WE can contribute OUR takes on your takes.

* Hold contests rewarding cool interpretations of your product in different media (web, video, mashups).

* Gamify your consumption so your customer’s takes on your published material is rewarded and prized.

* Think each page as the beginning of a DIGITAL conversation (ads tool.

* Don’t accept ads that are boring just because the pay well.

The Future of Mobility [Infographic]

The Future of Mobility [Infographic] | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

An astounding 80 percent of the world’s population now has a mobile phone—and 84 percent is unwilling to go a single day without their phone. About 45 percent of Americans say they can’t go more than a few hours without checking their phones. In 2012 there were five billion mobile phones in the world—1.8 billion of these were smart phones.

Facebook now reaches 76 percent of the smartphone market, and it accounts for 23 percent of total time spent using apps each month.

The next five most used applications are Google apps, and they account for 10 percent of app usage time. One of the latest smartphone trends is that things are getting less touchy but more sensitive. Gestures and other non-tap inputs are on the rise. Casting a sidelong glance, for example, can pause a video. Some apps are being developed that will switch from manual to voice to text to gesture, depending on what you are doing...

Seeking to manage our attention and avoid distraction is one thing, but first we need to be aware of where our attention is going. As smartphones are increasingly used, this infographic highlights in just what way we use our phones. 1 in 5 people check their phone every ten minutes... something tells me that the smartphone may be one of the biggest sources of modern distraction!
