The future of gamification is bright because it works. I've read the Gartner report saying 80% will fail and I agree, Failure is a big part of being an Internet marketer. Helpful to see the scope of gamifications' timeline in this infographic.

8 Benefits of Niche Marketing [4 from Scenttrail]

8 Benefits of Niche Marketing [4 from Scenttrail] | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Read on to find out generalist woes, specialist advantages, and 4 benefits to a defined marketing niche..

Marty Note
This post includes 4 benefits of "Niche Marketing" or focusing your business on a segment or persona group that may have emerged "organically". Here are their 4 benefits:

1. Increased Profits

2. Reduced Marketing Costs

3. Greater Trust and Credibility

4. Reduced Competition

Here are 4 more benefits of finding your niche:

5. Content Marketing Is An Option.

6. Easier To Become An Authority.

7. Winning Hearts & Minds More Likely.

8. Coherent Multi-Channel Possible & Cheaper.

No one can effectively content market to more than about 3 things. The fewer things you want to become an authority on, from Google's perspective, the easier it is to understand you.

Google's "spider" deals in math. If your "math" is consistently about X then you stand a chance of becoming an authority on X. Authority status is earned not created. By narrowing your content marketing to a niche or even a niche of a niche you may WIN where you had no chance of winning further up the food chain.

Today’s marketing demands people love you with the expression of that love being their willingness to use their personal brand in your favor. The trap is the more you want to be loved the less likely you are to be loved,

so narrowing your niche and being true to your expertise, passion and love makes it more likely those values will be returned by customers.

Coherence is an overlooked benefit of narrowing your focus.

Coherence in this crazy multi-channel world is a challenge. Your marketing needs to live on a website, social networks, email marketing and video marketing to name just a few of the “channels” a contemporary business demands. Coherence of message and channel is easier when your narrowcast.

Coherence is a flashy word.

Let's remember the fact  that for each digital marketing solution you must come with specific data collection JavaScript tag language, then define terms differently as to what constitutes a visitor, a page, an event, a conversion, shopping cart activity, or transactions

No wonder Marty points here to the huge advantage of niche marketing in this coherence dilemma.

Why There Is A Curatti In Your Future - Curatti

Why There Is A Curatti In Your Future - Curatti | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Great conversations with Guillaume Decugis, Mark Schaefer, Phil Buckley, Mark Traphagen & others last week convince me there's a Curatti in our future.

Curatti is an example of the HuffPost, BuzzFeed, Mashable multi-author, multi-thread held together by content curation model. I've noted to own the conversaton is to own the traffic. This model is best way to "own the converation" today and that is why there is a Curatti in your future.

3 S’s of Successful Content Marketing [Infographic + Marty Note]

3 S’s of Successful Content Marketing [Infographic + Marty Note] | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Content's Many Audiences
When you create content you need to think about who will be its eventual consumer. Do you know who and why your content will be consumed by? Not ever and not nearly.

What you do know is you need some content for search engine spiders, the only one guaranteed to read every word on your pages (lol). You also need short attention span and mobile theater. Think of a smart phone as a game console and you wouldn't be too far wrong.

Finally you need content that springs legs and walks around the world. My advice is to NOT plan for consumption as much as general content characteristics. Search engines love LONG form content. Users love graphics and short attention span theater.

Mobile users want instant gratification and to easily file for later. Rich snippets work great on mobile, will leave search engines wondering what the heck you are up to and may or may not go viral.

Do you need all three kinds of content: long form, rich snippets and games for mobile and viral content? Sure, and DO make sure you create all three, but don't limit where you publish.

Always test everything everywhere. If you have a rich snippet go viral then write a blog post and create some more weight for SEO and to promote viral. If you have long form go viral cut it up and tweet it.

Don't get MARRIED to the idea that X content goes into Y channel. Be flexible, test everything and COPE (Create Once and Publish Everywhere).

This article is all about how to leverage your geographic location for business advantage.

That idea is not new, but I like how this article treats the topic. The author, Mark McNeilly, makes the point that everybody wants to know where your business is located. So why not really use that as a marketing angle?

He gives clear examples of how location can influence your customer's perception about you. He suggest avoiding postcard branding -- that's where you put a picture of the Eiffel Tower on your package but you don't live in Paris.

McNeilly next makes several points, with examples, about connecting your story to your geographic location. Like Chrysler's 'imported from Detroit' campaign and microbreweries that are gaining repution because of how they are leveraging their location.

Now the question remains in my mind -- in what ways can I connect living in San Diego, CA to my story curation, consutling, and coaching busines? Hmmmmm....I may have to go to the beach to ponder that one :)

5 Quick Tests To Know If Your Company Is A Social Media Failure via Scenttrail

5 Quick Tests To Know If Your Company Is A Social Media Failure via Scenttrail | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Becoming A Social Business - 5 Quick Tess
If your answer is NO to any 2 of these questions your company is failing to become a "social business". Good news is fix is easy, just be able to say YES to all five:

Twitter - Do you FOLLOW at least 50% Of Your Followers (and do so with some presence and reasoning)?

Twitter - Do you respond to @YOU comments in hours or less?

GPlus - Are YOU and YOUR COMPANY on GPlus?

Pinterest - Are you anticipating the visual marketing revolution by PINNING?

Facebook - Have you held at least one Facebook contest and/or responded to and allowed customers to post on your Facebook wall?

YouTube - Do you have a YouTube Channel and are you posting there at least weekly?

We are past the time when merely having a Twitter button meant anything. Your business must USE and be PRESENT on these tools or your social buttons create powerful "Don't Get It" dissonance.

What other "social tests" can you think of? Marty

Crowdfunding Is Marketing Now

Scooped a post yesterday about #Startups using Contests and Games to sidestep traditional PR. Sidestepping is necessary because "traditional PR" lies in tatters on the ground. Crowdfunding isn't crowdfunding.

I had a good friend complain that it would take him as long to crowdfund as to raise money for his startup with VC. I didn't think of it at the time, but the correct comeback is, "Don't think in OR think in AND".

We tend to zero sum everything. Don't think of crowdfunding as zero sum, you do it INSTEAD of something else. Think of crowdfunding as an AND. You create crowdfunding AND you distribute a press release AND you create a social campaign AND so on.

What I love about the Pebble Watch crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter is not that they were able to raise $11M, though that is pretty cool. I love the way Pebble used OPP (Other People Platforms) to solve every startup problem from distribution to celebrity endorsements.

Crowdfunding your marketing forces a level of creativity it may not achieve without the exercise of crowddfunding, so don't think of crowdfunding as crowdfunding think of it as one of the very important tactical "AND" moves in your marketing plan.
