Why librarians can't ignore data anymore | Social and digital network | Scoop.it
It's here, and I have to say it came quicker than I expected - the first big stick for researchers - the PLoS data sharing policy. What this policy means for researchers is that if they refuse to s...

Subtleties of Color: Connecting Color to Meaning

Subtleties of Color: Connecting Color to Meaning | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

'About a year ago, we published a blog post framed as a letter to NASA, asking them to stop using rainbow color scales. The post was written out of a general frustration with rainbow color scales, but especially out of seeing field experts and leaders, like NASA, using a perceptually incorrect color scale. We weren’t alone.

Robert Simmon from NASA’s Earth Observatory has been crusading for the same changes. He’s made great progress, and as a continuation of that, he’s responding to our “letter” with a brilliant series of blog posts on proper use of colors and color scales.'

The clusters and outliers suggest that for middle-income countries there is a link with open-data practices, but not among the richest countries. Likewise, some of the least corrupt countries are nevertheless middling in making their data open. Together, the charts suggest there is still a long way to go to get states to release their data openly...

Spotify teams with MusicMetric for new analytics service

Spotify teams with MusicMetric for new analytics service | Social and digital network | Scoop.it

Musicmetric has announced a deal with Spotify that will allow its users to benchmark Spotify data alongside social media trends and file-sharing information.

Musicmetric Pro, Musicmetric’s premium analytics tool, will integrate Spotify data allowing it to be analysed alongside other data streams. MusicMetric says this could show how streaming data can be used by the music industry to better leverage revenues.

Anyone with Spotify Analytics can now access all their data through Musicmetric, meaning streaming data can be laid on top of social media trends, BitTorrent consumption and sentiment for over 700,000 artists captured by Musicmetric.
